The Decatur Infantry Regiment was a unit in the United States Army that served during World War I and World War II. The regiment was activated in 1916 as part of the 2nd Georgia Infantry Regiment and fought in both wars. In World War I, the regiment was redesignated as the 1st Battalion, Decatur Infantry Regiment and fought in France and Belgium before being sent to the United States for training. After completing its training, the battalion was sent to England where it participated in the Battle of Vimy Ridge before being assigned to duty on the American front lines. In 1918, aftermath of Armistice led to demobilization of United States military forces around Atlanta followed by reactivation of 1st Battalion, Decatur Infantry Regiment which became attached to 3rd Georgia Infantry Brigade under General John J. Pershing. The brigade moved from Georgia to Camp Polk near Beaufort, South Carolina where it remained until May 1922 when it returned home for redeployment with newly activated 8th Georgia Infantry Brigade under Major General George Custer at Fort Snelling, Minnesota]. In World War II, 1st Battalion, Decatur Infantry Regiment served with distinction within 9th Alabama Division working as a reconnaissance battalion prior moving overseas aboard ships destined for Guadalcanal during April 1943 campaign; subsequently fighting at Bougainville Island (9th Alabama Division), Guam (9th Alabama Division) and Saipan (9th Alabama Division). Upon return home following campaigns in New Guinea (9th Alabama Division), Western Solomon Islands (10th South Pacific Squadron), Vanuatu (10th Australian Squadron) and Efate Island(10th Australian Squadron); Following Gold Rush period; Company A1 went into camp at Waco Texas; Company B2 arrived at Lubbock Oklahoma Territory; Company C3 arrived at Stockton California Army Deployed Gift History: At present day there are no active US army units located within or garrisoningDecatur County GA & such functions have been delegated/taken over by other organizations/units stationed elsewhere within our country including National Guard units & state police SWAT teams

Decatur is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 24,203 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The name of the city comes from General Andrew Jackson's victory over Native Americans at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1812. Decatur is home to various cultural attractions, including the Decatur Institute of Art and Design and Centenary College of Technology. The site where Decatur now stands was once a village called Gadsden Landing on tidal estuary north of Savannah. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson ordered Major Ridge to move his artillery across an open field near present-day Decatur for protection against possible attack by Indian forces led by Chief Tecumseh. Captain James Fenton'sannon firing squad captured an Indian chief named Arapaho while he was walking with his women and children to nearby Gadsden Landing for assistance in escaping punishment from Ulysses S. Grant’s army under General Muhammad Ali Jones that had besieged their village during the War for independence (1812). This event helped win Jackson’s support as he began his campaign against Native American forces soon after becoming president in 1828. In 1847, when Georgia became a state, Decatur became its county seat. The county courthouse still stands today and is used as a museum today about local history and culture; it also houses free public parking within easy reach of the building interior). On December 12th 1865 Union General Nathan Bedford Forrest attacked Confederate forces commanding Major Ridge's brigade south of town during what became known as battle "Horseshoe Bend." Forrest's men were successful in killing most of the soldiers leading the charge before they retreated back into town; however some Confederate cavalrymen managed to make their way back into town and engaged Forrest's unit until they finally withdrew back out onto Highway 412 which ended up leading them right into Union hands just south of town - this historic episode referred to as "the Battle Of Horseshoe Bend". Today there are many businesses located throughout downtown Decatur such as Macy's Department Store which has been here since 1898 when it first opened its doors next door to what is now Sam Boyd Stadium; Ford Motor Company has been located here since 1907; JBL Music Factory has been here since 1921; Coca Cola Refreshments have been here since 1945; Blues Brothers restaurant & bar also resides on North Market Street adjacent to Sam Boyd Stadium - all these businesses are anchor tenants inside or outside one another making downtownDecatur one large shopping district complete with more than 50 stores/arrivals/ departures daily!

The name "Decatur" comes from General George Decatur's victory over Native American forces at the Battle of Fort Moultrie on July 24, 1814. The first European to visit Decatur was Andrew Johnson in 1802 during his presidency as United States President. He ordered a survey of the area and named it for General James Wilkinson, who had served with him in Indian Wars campaign in Alabama and Florida. Wilkinson had been killed during battle near Mobile Bay on October 14, 1802 while leading an army against Spanish forces commanded by Manuel de Ayala y Valdés Pérez (1801-1881).
