Dalton, Georgia is a small town in south-central Georgia. It was founded in 1828 by the Dahlons and the first post office was established in 1830. The current Dalton courthouse was built in 1907 and is one of the few remaining examples of Federal architecture from the antebellum period. The focal point of town are the three large gristmills which have been used for flour, cornmeal, and other types of food production for centuries.

Dalton is a small town in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Dalton was founded in 1836 by George Washington Dalton and his wife Elizabeth Wilkinson. The first post office in Dalton was established on December 12, 1837. In 1840, it became the town's first incorporated settlement when it passed an act of Congress creating a township within Cobb County. The name "Dalton" originates from a grant from Governor Andrew Jackson to George Washington Dalton for land between Decatur and Marietta Streets on which he built a stockade to protect settlers from Native Americans. On January 3, 1848, the town's charter was amended to incorporate as a city with three wards and its own police force under Mayor James Hodge. In 1861–1862 during the American Civil War, Dalton served as headquarters for General Nathaniel Banks' campaign against Confederate forces in northeast Georgia and central Alabama. From 1863 until 1865 it was also Headquarters for General Joseph Ewell's campaign against Robert Easley's Union Army in central Georgia and Southeast Alabama before being abandoned by both armies following their respective successes at Chattanooga andprojections of capitalAtlanta had made onto Dalton were erroneous; this led to suggestions that it be moved out of Cobb County altogether into what would become Fulton County but no such move ever took place

Dalton, Georgia is a town in McIntyre County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of theAtlanta metropolitan area. The first Europeans to land in what is now Dalton were French traders and fur trappers in 1692–93. In 1732, George Washington and his party founded a small plantation here. By 1785, the area had become part of the Northwest Territory under British jurisdiction. When Georgia became a U.S. state in 1802, Dalton was one of its original townships. The first post office was established here on December 25, 1802; it continued until March 3, 1865 when it was moved to Milledgeville (later Atlanta). In 1830-31 John Wesley Powell and James Fisk mapped out what is now McIntyre County as they explored the supposed route of the Santa Fe Trail from St Louis to New Mexico through central Alabama and south into Georgia.
