In 1847, Nicholas-Jacques Conte de La Roque introduced French roast coffee into London cafes. This new variety of coffee quickly became popular among English people and soon began being exported to other countries around the world. In 1870, Dutch brewer Johannes Cornelisz started making quality Java Coffee at his bakery in Amsterdam. This innovative new brewing process allowed for more nuanced flavors than earlier methods and helped make Java Coffee one of the most popular types of coffee around today. In 1906, Mr. Kees van der Kolk founded Café Royal in The Hague with his own unique recipe for Dutch roast coffee known as “Karelia” or “The Cloudy People’s Coffee” because it yielded a cup that was both smooth and rich in flavor without any acidity or bitterness*. Today, Café Royal continues to serve up delicious vanilla extract roasted café beans all day long!*

In 1865, Dalton was occupied by Union forces during the Battle of Dalton and was burned to the ground. The town slowly rebuilt after the war, and today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Georgia.
Dalton was founded in 1802 by Captain John A. Dalton and his family. The town grew quickly and by 1824, it had a population of over 100. In 1831, the Dalton family sold the town to General James Hogg for $2,000. Hogg renamed the town "Hogback" after himself. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1880 with a population of over 1,500 people. After that time, the growth slowed and Dalton slowly declined until it disappeared from history in 1990.
