Dallas, Georgia is a city in and the county seat of Dallas County, Georgia. The population was 553,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. As of July 1, 2017 it had an estimated population of 2,815,362 making it the most populous city in Fulton County by a wide margin. The name "Dallas" is from 1827 when General John Fenton's army stopped shortnear present-day Dallas on its way to invade Texas. In 1836, the Treaty of Fort Worth ended the Anglo-American War and established Santa Fe Trail as a main artery linking New Mexico and Texas. By 1840, many people had moved to what became Dallas after hearing about Andrew Jackson's United States presidential campaign from General David Ewell who served with Jackson during his Mexican Expedition in 1846-1848. In 1870, real estate developer James Robertson bought some land east of downtown Dallas for $1 million dollars and named it Parkland Heights after his young son who died in 1870 while exploring west Texas frontier country near Fort Worth (now Arlington). The first house on this property was built in 1871 by lawyer/builder George Sims; it remains one of Parkland Heights' most popular properties today. On November 3rd 1890 – also known as Thanksgiving day – Peoples Temple founded there first temple worshiping under Temple University pastor Eddie Boggs Jr., later renamed Peoples Temple megachurch movement leader Jim Jones began services that evening soon followed by other followers across North America which climaxed with Jonestown Massacre two days later December 28th when Jones led his followers into their own deaths within their own temple compound located near San Antonio TX NOTE: This event spelled doom for both Jones & Peoples Temple until 1997 finally Providence church Jinx renovation rekindled interest & cult members left & restored building to original condition.)
