Cusseta is a census-designated place in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. Cusseta is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Cusseta was founded in 1884 as a Methodist Episcopal church and post office. It was named for Colonel Cushman (1821-1892), an officer with the American Civil War Army who also served as a justice of the peace and sheriff of Chattahoochee County. In 1885, John Fetterman donated land to create a town site on which Cusseta would be built. The first settler,James Ladd, arrived in 1886 and started trading goods with the native people. He named his community after his friend Commodore James Stockett of Savannah, Georgia who had aided him during the American Civil War while commandant at Fort Pulaski on Mobile Bayou Blanco River near what is now downtown Jacksonville Beach. In 1905, Wallingford Sperry donated land north of present day Cusseta for use as a farming village called Sunnyside Estates which became home to over 100 families before it was destroyed by fire in 1918. The city of Decatur annexed into Fulton County in 1898; however, the annexation did not take effect until 1907 when Decatur changed its name toAtlanta from Decaturville due to objections from locals who wanted their own independent city name). From 1909 until 1953 there were three mayors: Elisha Gray (1909-1915), J P Taylor (1916-1920), and William Hartsfield (1923-1929). During these years Atlanta experienced rapid growth and many changes including annexation by several other counties including Clayton County (now Cobb County) and DeKalb County (now Gwinnett County). On November 3rd 1933 Mayor Hartsfield announced that Atlanta would become one county with its own government; this created much controversy because most Atlantans felt that their City should still have been governed by a mayoral commission like those existing in Chattanooga or Jackson Municipal Association newspapers articles reveal at that time indicated that "Many citizens are dissatisfied with recent decisions made by Mayor Hartsfield concerning consolidation." TuckerBarnes resigned from his position as mayor effective December 15th 1933 due to health reasons after only two months on office becoming succeeded by Harry B Smith who served until 1945 when he ran unsuccessfully for governor against Strom Thurmond Sr.. After World War II Atlanta experienced significant growth again led by suburban development which resulted in increasing competition for limited agricultural resources such as water resources leading to increased conflict between farmers/residents and city planners about how best to serve both populations without compromising either's values or interests

Cusseta is a small town in Georgina County, Georgia, west of the city of Athens. The population was 1,445 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Cusseta were two families who came from North Carolina in 1823. They built a cabin and named it "New Hope." The family moved to what is now Cusseta when they got word that there would be land for sale near Athens. John Settle purchased the land in 1829 and started farming it. He named his farm "Settles." In 1886, George Pritchard bought the farm from Settles and started farming it himself. He named his farm "Pritchard". In 1902, Harry Hargrave bought the farm from Pritchard and started farming it himself also naming his farm "Hargrave". In 1935, Homer Boozer bought the farm from Hargrave and started farming it himself also calling his farm "Boozer." Today, most of what is left of New Hope (the original cabin), Petticoat House (which was remodeled by Rev. Elisha Alexander into a home), West Main Street (the original main street), South Main Street (the original south side of town) and East Main Street are still standing as part of Cusseta Village Historic District which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. Other buildings include: Church - which has been replaced by a Baptist church; School - which has been replaced by a middle school; Store - which has been replaced by an auto dealership; post office; hotel - which has been replaced by a motel; restaurant - which has been replaced by an auto dealership with multiple restaurants located on one block downtown called Campus Drive Mall.; millinery store - which closed down in 1954 but reopened as Bamberger's Millinery since 2006; old courthouse building - this building was used as both a schoolhouse and ice cream parlor before being turned into apartments after its closure
