Cusseta is a small town in eastern Georgia, located on the Chattahoochee River. It is the seat of Cusseta County and had a population of 2,569 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1868 by white settlers from Tennessee as a farming community for those who worked on the Chattahoochee River. The first post office was established in Cusseta in 1876. The name "Cusseta" was chosen because it sounded like an Indian word meaning "to quench." In 1915, the United States Post Office moved to nearby Milledgeville and remained there until it was closed by USPS in 1967. During World War II, Cusseta served as a military airfield for Army Air Forces bomber pilots stationed here. Today, much of what made Cusseta such an appealing place to live has been lost to time; however, its rich cultural heritage remains intact. One of the most notable aspects of this heritage is its intense focus on music; every family member has their own musical instrument which they use to play traditional Georgian songs and tunes during various events throughout the year. One of the earliest gifts given to the USAF was a Boeing 747-100 aircraft nicknamed “Spirit” which was donated by Boeing in 1970. In that year, US President Richard Nixon also visited RAF Fairford RAF base where he delivered a speech on behalf of NATO member UKRAINE. This event marked Britain’s first formal relationship with America since World War II and also demonstrated RAF’s commitment to American defence interests through cooperation with Nato member states. Over time, other aircraft have been donated by various manufacturers including Lockheed Martin (LMT), Northrop Grumman (NGM), Raytheon (RTN), McDonnell Douglas (MDL), Beechcraft (BA) and Embraer(EBR). Many different types of equipment have been gifted to the USAF such as fighter jets such as F-15 Eagle fighters or bombers such as KC-135 Stratotankers or E-3 Sentry airborne Early Warning System planes. These planes play an important role in global operations and are used for carrying out missions such as strike missions against targets inside Syria or Iraq or support activities during peacekeeping operations around the world.
