The history of marine gift-giving in Covington, Georgia dates back to the early 1800s. When the original town was founded, fishermen and farmers brought their catch ashore to sell or trade. The first store in Covington was started by a man named John McConnell. He sold seafood, hardware, cigarettes and other items from his shop on Market Street. As the town grew, so did its maritime industry. By 1892, there were three businesses selling marine supplies: a grocery store, a lumber yard and a shipyard. In 1912, the first marina was established in Covington when Captain Wm Fenton donated land for it on Blackstock Creek. The marina served as an anchorage for vessels carrying goods between Savannah and Norfolk. In the 1930s, Covington became home to two naval airfields: Naval Air Station Daytona Beach and Naval Air Station Mayport. These installations played an important role in World War II because they provided air support for troops fighting in Europe and Asia. As part of peacetime military operations, NASMayport would also be used for training pilots destined for combat duties later in the war. In 1951, NASCovetington changed its name to Jacksonville Navy Yard when Jacksonville became the newly created city of Jacksonville within the United States of America. The old name continued to be used until 1974 when NASCovetington became part of MARINE CORPS Reserve Fleet (MARINE CORPS APPROVED) at JACKSONVILLE NAVY YARD under jurisdiction of JAXPORT ADMINISTRATION with Headquarters at SWANSEA NAVY BASE adjacent to JACKSONVILLE AIR FORCE BASE providing terminal services for all classes/types of naval ships afloat including amphibious units embarked aboard Marine Corps Ships operating out of JAXPORT There have been several major renovations/updates which have taken place throughout MARINE CORPS Reserve Fleet at JACKSONVILLE NAVY YARD since I joined it as Commanding Officer on OCTOBER 1ST 2004 viz., Accommodation Units - NEW CONDOMINIUM ON THE NORTHWEST COAST WITH FACILITIES INCLUDING 8 GAS LINES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC USE AS WELL AS STORAGE AND SHOWER rooms etc.; Workforce Enhancement Project - This project involved installation of new CAT V8 engines which will increase power by 300% while maintaining fuel economy; Medical Facility - A new Medical Bay has been constructed incorporating state-of-the-art amenities such as Oncology Suite & Surgical Table Unit/-s; mess hall has been replaced with Post Offices Mess Hall which is now capable of seating up to 350 people; Electric Boat Simulator Test Range has been erected adjacent to Boatshed; helicopter landing area has been fabricated using slipstream runway facing property adjoining Shipbuilding Annexe(s). Some general remarks about this reserve fleet can be made as follows: It provides an excellent opportunity for Sailors who want access to practicing their skills without havingto leave their unit or portoflown offshore; diversity is fostered through use of many different types & brands ol vessels both commercial & military iincluded eg., EPOCHE Maritime Group's TP-27A Seahawks jet trainers available courtesyMarine Corps Aviation Support Squadron (MARS), Boeing P-8I Neptune patrol aircraft being flown by Coast Guard Helicopter Service squadron; Additional units available upon request eg., UH-60 Hueys operated by Marine Aircraft Group 144 stationed at NASFiji); extensive renovation program allows us TO ADD UP TO 25 EQUIPMENT MODIFICATIONS PER YEAR IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN EVEN MORE DIVERSIFIED SERVICE TO OUR PARTICIPANTS OUTSIDE OF THEIR OFFICIAL AREA OF OPERATION

Today, much of downtown remains unchanged from its heyday while several newer buildings have been constructed nearby such as Piedmont Hospital which replaced Forrest Hospital and Piedmont Park which replaced the old cotton gin site near present day Midtown Crossing Shopping Center - home to Sears Holdings etc.. The economy has changed quite a bit since 2000 when Amazon first opened its second headquarters here with over 4 thousand employees making it one of the largest employer clusters in metro Atlanta! With more than $1 billion brought in total through various business ventures over that decade alone including restaurant chains like Chick-fil-A and Subway; additional jobs have been created within tech companies such as Omni Group plc., Wachovia Corporation, Fidelity Investments Headquarters Campus; Coca Cola Bottling Works formerly known as Coca-Cola Company Bottling Plant No.(partially demolished) - this entire cluster forms MARTA Station Area I - MARTA’s busiest transit stop serving commuters from all directions across three Lines: trains run every 12 minutes during peak hours with stops at Five Points station on routes 2 ( southwest lanes), 3 (northwest lanes), & 7 (east lanes).
