The Air Force Deployed Gift History program began in Conyers, Georgia in 1978. It is an annual tradition that allows the citizens of Conyers to give back to the Air Force by sending a gift. The gift recipient is selected by the Base Exchange Officer (BE) and given a certificate of appreciation. The BE then sends the gift to the appropriate unit or squadron stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The purpose of this program is twofold: To show our gratitude for all that the Air Force has done for us and To promote friendly relations between our service members and their civilian counterparts. Each year, approximately 100 different gifts are sent to units and squadrons stationed around the world.
The United States Air Force deploys gift to troops in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The gift is a selection from the USAF’s extensive inventory of aircraft, missiles and supplies. This year’s Operation Iraqi Freedom Gift was made up of two types of items: vehicles and munitions. The USAF donated over seventy-five military vehicles, including Humvees, armored personnel carriers (APCs), convoy trucks, tanker cars and more. These donations were split into two categories: combat equipped and noncombat equipped. Combat equipped vehicles include Abrams tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles (BFVs), M1A2 Sherman Tanks and Stryker Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs). Noncombat equipment includes radios, night vision goggles and other equipment needed for combat operations. One hundred thirty four munitions were also given away this year in support of the war effort. These munitions come in a variety forms such as bombs, rockets and grenades. They will be used by US Forces to target enemy forces located near Baghdad or Mosul. These munitions are important because they help make sure that Iraq does not become a sanctuary for extremists like Osama bin Laden or al Qaeda leaders who may have access to weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

For instance, in 2007, RAF personnel contributed 12 Spitfires Mk IX aircraft - complete with authentic markings - as part ofOperation Herrick's Eagle programme; this was an unique honour given that no other air force had ever offered such a donation! Additionally, since 2008 all Airmen serving aboard USAF nuclear bombers have been issued inscribed "Gift from Above" patches which represent not just their service but also donations made by other branches or agencies within the USAF – these patches are now worn as part of regular uniform dress throughout military installations worldwide!
