This event is known as the “First Fleet” because it was composed only of ships built for sailing across oceans rather than using sails or oars like later expeditions. After its return from America, Spain lost interest in Cuba and Venezuelan territory that had been purchased from them by Columbus during his trip there. It wasn't until 1521 that another attempt was made to reach India by sailing around Africa instead of going through the Strait of Gibraltar. Unfortunately, this voyage also failed because an iceberg caused by bad weather stopped short near Cape Horn and prevented any further progress towards India
