The history of the Chamblee, Georgia Army National Guard can be traced back to 1814 when a small militia was organized to protect the area against Indian attacks. By 1861, the First Georgia Infantry Regiment had been raised and was known as the “Fighting Georgians.” In 1865, following Confederate defeat at Appomattox Court House, most of the state’s militias were disbanded and their members mustered into federal service. The Chamblee Militia continued in existence until disbanding in 1924. In 1939, an act became law establishing the Chamblee Army National Guard as a unit ofthe Georgia Department of Defense. The unit colors were red and white; it wore blue for infantry (1939-present), gold for artillery (1939-present), and olive drab for cavalry (1814-1861). As part of this change in organization, commanders became general officers with command over all units within their brigade or regimental commands. The first major action by this new regiment occurred on May 3rd 1941 during World War II when it participated in Operation Husky which resulted in the capture of Majestic Bridge near Macon. Since its inception, Chamblee Army National Guard has played an important role within the community by providing security and support to local government agencies including those located in Chamblee itself as well as neighboring communities such as Douglasville and Dunwoody. Additionally, through its participation in both state missions and military operations throughout Georgia and beyond, Chaffee AAGN has given back countless hours to our community partners – something that is abundantly clear every time we see one of our Soldiers serve proudly on active duty or mobilized for any event large or small!

The Chamblee, Georgia Army National Guard Armory was established in 1941 as the Chamblee Armory. It served as the armory for the Georgia militia until 1958 when it became an official military installation of the United States Army. The armory was then converted into a national guard post and is today known as MP headquarters and visitor center.
Chamblee, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is located on the Chattahoochee River. The first Europeans to visit Chamblee were French fur traders in 1694. The settlement was named for John Chamblee, a Scotch-Irishman who platted the area and donated land to the government of Georgia in 1824 as part of the Crawford Purchase. In 1847, much of what is now Chamblee was burned by General Andrew Jackson's army during the abortive invasion of South Carolina. In 1869, local citizens petitioned Congress to create an incorporated townhood within their boundaries and on December 14th that year they received incorporation from U.S. District Court Judge James Hargrave with a population of eighty-six people. On October 6th of that year, Chatham County was created from parts of Fulton and Gwinnett Counties with its own courthouse and jail; however it soon became apparent that Chatham would not be able to support both townships and so on November 7th residents voted by subscription to merge into one municipal unit with a total population of 2,468 On May 8th 1907 Chamblee voters adopted a new city charter which provided for: 1) regulation by an elected board under mayoralty rule; 2) prohibition against liquor sales within city limits; 3) establishment of special committees empowered to make ordinances regulating traffic and industry; 4) control over school districts; 5) power to borrow money for public works projects up to $10 million per annum On July 1st 1908 Chatham County annexed more territory making it total land area equal to that now comprising Chamblee proper including portions annexed from Fulton County . This annexation included most eastern side of Chattahoochee River excepting present day Milton

Chamblee also experienced significant growth as a result of its status as a slaveholding community. In 1865, after the American Civil War ended, Chamblee became part of the new Confederate state of Georgia. It remained a Confederate stronghold until Reconstruction ended in 1877. After Reconstruction came to an end, Chamblee again experienced rapid growth and prosperity. However, this period was also marked by controversy and racism throughoutmuchofthetown's history. Today, Chamblee is one of the most racially diverse cities in Georgia.
