Chamblee is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 27,814 at the 2010 census. Chamblee is the county seat of DeKalb County and has been since 1836. The area that now makes up Chamblee was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. It was named after a Creek Indian chief, who had his village here. In 1820, Colonel James Wilkinson built his home on land he had purchased from the Chickasaw Nation. He renamed it Wilkinson Station after himself and his wife, Lady Jane Wilkinson. In 1830, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved settlers to this area from Morgan County because of its rich coal seams and potential for agriculture. The city's first store opened in 1835 on Court Street east of what is now downtown Chamblee. A post office called "Chamblee" was established in 1837; it continued until 1907. In 1860, Confederate general Robert Ewell located Camp Floyd south of town near present day Peachtree Road and ordered all Union soldiers out of town without giving them an opportunity for surrender or departure under threat of death if they did not leave immediately. This event became known as Battle of Chaffee Hill due to the fact that many residents fled to safety before battle commenced In 1870s-1930s there were many small businesses in Chamblee including grocery stores (like Gadsden Grocery), retail outlets such as J C Penney's Department Store (later Macy's), movie theaters (like Cobb Theatres), laundry facilities (such as Laundromat #2) and several churches which served as schools during these years After World War II Chamblee experienced rapid growth with new housing being erected along with factories such as American Motors Corporation Then came the late 1970s through 1990s when crime rates increased dramatically leading to a decrease in character resources for police officers which caused riots throughout much of Atlanta resulting in more than 60 injuries over 5 days 1980-1990

The name derives from Cherokee word meaning "place where the bulrush grows." In 1881, John Wesley Hardin donated land to form the city of Chamblee. By 1907, Chamblee had a population of 2,500. In 1955, it became a suburb ofAtlanta and has since grown to over 10,000 residents. As one of only two communities in Cobb County with its own school district (the other being Sandy Springs), Chamblee schools have been among the most successful in Georgia. In addition to its educational institutions and retail businesses, Chamblee also features several golf courses and seasonal lakes that offer opportunities for fishing or swimming.
Chamblee was founded in 1822 by a group of white men and women who had fled the Creek Nation. The town was named for General Andrew Chamblee, a British military officer who campaigned against the Creek Nation during the American Revolution. Chamblee's land grant to the town included 640 acres (240 hectares). In 1830, Chamblee became a part of Georgia and in 1836, he was elected as its first mayor. He served until his death in 1839.
