Cedartown is a town in Muscogee County, Georgia, United States. It was founded in 1838 by General James H. Wilson and the first post office was established in 1839. The town changed its name to Cedartown in 1865 after the USS Cedartown (AKA CSS Walton) sunk off the coast of Cedartown during the American Civil War.
Cedartown is a small town located in Lumpkin County, Georgia. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Cedartown is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The community began as a log cabin settlement on the Chattahoochee River near present-day Cedartown. After the American Civil War, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his army through Lumpkin County to within striking distance ofAtlanta, and discovered this valuable grazing land for cotton plantations. As more white people arrived in Lumpkin County during Reconstruction (1868-1912), they subdivided and built homes around what became known as "The Old Plantation." In 1885, J. P. Morgan sent representatives from his plantation firm to survey the land west of downtown Atlanta for a new cotton gin and mill that would process their product into finished cloths and other items. The company bought 107 acres including what is now Cedartown from John Brownell & Son for $675 plus $10 per acre in gold dividends paid annually to Morgan until 1893 when he sold it back to Brownell & Son for an additional $1,000 cash plus another 10% interest each year on the final sale price until 1917 when it reverted back to Morgan's heirs. During World War II, most of Cedartown was destroyed by firebombing raids by Japanese forces; however, many structures still remain standing such as Griggs Chapel which was built in 1907 as a Methodist church and remodeled in 1949 after being bombed by Japan; Cadet Field Training School (now known as MUSC) which opened in 1941 as an Army Air Forces training center; Mrs. Tilton House which served as both a schoolhouse and home for local women during World War II; First Baptist Church which was consecrated on December 11th 1945; Harmon Hall which housed various government offices including those of Georgia Railway Commission starting with its opening on October 15th 1927; United States Post Office - first established in 1905 - also located here before moving out to Auburn across the street from Mrs A W White's grocery store later renamed Ebenezer Baptist Church...and much more! An interesting footnote about these buildings is that none were ever condemned or condemned with demolition orders because all but Harmon Hall were torn down subsequent to post-war reconstruction efforts being completed throughout Lumpkin County without any further damage or impact due to lack of funding/mismanagement! Today there are few if any remaining traces of pre-war life outside of some businesses open sporadically along US Highway 20 east of town limits serving primarily older African Americans who have returned since then...the catch phrase "Once Cedartown was beautiful" can be seen everywhere but visitors are usually welcomed with open arms!

Cedartown is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Cedartown post office was established on December 12, 1822, and remained in operation until November 3, 1975. Cedartown is named after Captain John Fenton of the Mobile Bay Company who founded what would become Valdosta County in 1785. In 1836, Captain Fenton's son Samuel bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land near present-day Cedartown and developed it into a farming community known as "Fentonville". Samuel's son George W. Fenton purchased an additional 666 acres (3 km²) around 1849 and renamed it Cedartown after his father's home state of Georgia. The first store building in town was built by George W. Fenton in 1850 on the corner of Fourth Street and First Avenue. The first school was opened in 1852 by teacher Lillie Aiken with six students under her instruction; this facility served as the nucleus for later schools that were built throughout the community over time including: a high school (1892), elementary school (1912), junior high school (1936), middle/junior high school (1966), and current grade 9–12th educational institution called "Cedar Valley" which serves as both a second floor academic center for grades 9 through 12th grade education as well as its own separate football stadium which seats 710 students on two floors with more than enough space to add an extra layer if needed during tournaments or other events that might require overflow seating capacity. In 1916 local citizen James Groom donated approximately 6 acres (2 ha) northeast of downtown Cedartown to make room for what would eventually become Cedar Valley Elementary School; this gift also included funds necessary to purchase land extending from Third Street eastward to First Avenue where Cedar Valley now stands; construction began immediately upon receipt of Groom's donation while still living at his home which he had moved into shortly before hand thanks to nearby improvements made by then Mayor Augustus Ewing Sr.; when Groom died soon afterward his wife inherited rights to the property along with $5 per acre ($ / ha) from annual rent she received from using it for public agricultural purposes until administrative procedures could be clarified pursuant to a platting order issued by then Circuit Court Judge Willis Odom Jr.; following clarification efforts such as acquiring additional charter memberships from various organizations such as parent-teacher associations across Cobb County - all without ever having seen or met these individuals - development proceeded apace sans any major hiccups despite some initial apprehensions among some officials about potential traffic congestion resultant from impending annexation by neighboring municipalities; today Cedar Valley boasts several notable properties including its own 16-hole golf course designed by architect Elmer Harriman which has hosted numerous professional tournaments since 1927 while also boasting several dozen homes used primarily for private family functions each year many attended exclusively within walking distance of their respective institutions making Cedar Valley one very active residential enclave within commuting distance not too mention adjacent commercial districts providing essential services such as groceries, health care, etc.; accordingly, annexed communities have generally been more hesitant or unwilling – much like our current trend nationally following recent Supreme Court rulings challenging interstate compacts -to open up similar neighborhoods within their boundaries even when deemed beneficial via Comprehensive Plan Review requirements thereby exacerbating already extant transportation challenges resulting in increased commute times typically exceeding 30 minutes each way between central Athens/Clarke Counties' key business districts notwithstanding occasional exceptions Just north exit off I-85 just past Roswell go down Old Road 2nd street turn left onto Old Road 2nd Street you will come to a stop sign turn right onto Service Rd Go 3 miles there you will see another stop sign Turn left onto Service Rd continue going 3 miles you will come to another stop sign again Turn right onto Main St Go 1 mile you will find Cadarwood Cemetery on your left
