The Cartersville Armory has been in operation since 1881. It is one of the few remaining gun shops in North America that still sells handguns and rifles by appointment only (no sales open to the public). In addition to its guns, the armory also offers a variety of other Shooting and Recreational equipment, including shotguns and skeet shooting shotguns. The armory also provides classes on various firearm skills, such as muzzleloading, reloading and NRA training courses for people of all ages. The Cartersville Gun Club was founded in 1909. Cartersville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia. It is located on the east side of the main branch of the Chattahoochee River, about 15 miles (24 km) north of Atlanta. The community was founded in 1811 by Captain James Carters and his family. The present day Cartersville post office was established in 1837. The name was derived from Captain Carters' home, which was located near the intersection of what are now Court and High streets. A cotton gin and mill were built here in 1854 by Colonel John Troup, who also donated land for a courthouse and schoolhouse. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest burned most of this mill complex to prevent its capture by Union forces during the Civil War. The site is now occupied by an auto dealership and several homes. In 1887, Jno Alyskin purchased 5 acres (2 ha) northwest of town on which he erected a large frame house known as "The White House". This structure served as both Cartersville's first post office (1887) and its first schoolhouse (1892). Mrs. Alyskin later added an additional 2 acres (1 ha) to her property for use as a churchyard and cemetery. She died in 1907; her husband continued to live there until his death in 1949.

It was founded by George Washington Carver in 1847 as part of his ongoing effort to improve food production in the region. The city's namesake comes from General James Carver, who served as military governor of Georgia from 1851-1857 and supported agricultural development in the area. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Cartersville were slaves taken from nearby Savannah. In 1847, George Washington Carver came across a group of enslaved people working on a plantation near present-day Cartersville and decided to buy them all out with money he had saved up over several years. From that point on, many African Americans worked in or around Cartersville until it became an incorporated city in 1865. Numerous industrial plants were built during this time such as American Tobacco Company’s Ptolemy Paper company plant which manufactured paper products such as cigarettes and tissues; Coca Cola Bottling Works; Post Office Savings Bank Building (now called Courtyard Live); First Christian Church; and addition to Fulton County Courthouse including alterations made for World War II use by then-Fulton County Administrator John Hargrave Sellers. In 1990, local historian Drayton Floyd paidfor restoration workon three cemeteries adjacent to City Hall which resultedin their first open funeral since 1916 when pioneer Minister Cushman Wesley Funston officiated at burial of his son Elijah at SpringHill Cemetery ().
