The Georgia National Guard was organized on July 20, 1795 as a militia regiment of infantry. The first commander of the Georgians in the national guard was Captain John Sevier who served from 1795-1800. In 1800, Georgia became a state and Captain David Aiken took command of the Georgians in the national guard. He served from 1800-1801 and 1802-1803. In 1804, Governor James Kenedy ordered Captain Aiken to disband the national guard because he felt that it was not efficient or effective.Captain Aiken remained with the Georgian army until 1811 when he resigned his commission due to health reasons.In 1812, Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas Bache ordered Captain Aiken to form a new battalion of 1st Regiment Infantry Georgia Militia which would become known as Company C 2nd Regiment Infantry Georgia Militia which would serve under Major General John Murray until 1815 when it disbanded again due to lack of reinforcements.In 1816, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Lamberton ordered Company D 2nd Regiment Infantry Georgia Militia to be stationed at Glynn County for defense against western attacks during the war for independence. After Confederate troops captured Rome in November 1861 and began besieging Fort McAllister on December 12th 1861 Company D surrendered its arms on January 7th 1862 becoming part of Confederate forces after Northern forces sacked Rome on December 15th 1861
Cartersville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 14,564 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The first permanent settler in Cartersville was John A. Carter who built a cabin on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in 1814. He named his land for General George Washington Carters, an officer in the Continental Army and one of the founders of Atlanta. In 1840, James Witherspoon established Witherspoon's Creek Farm (now called Park Heights) on present-day Cartersville Road east of town and developed it into a large agricultural community with over 100 homes. In 1845, Jno. Hargrave relocated his family to Cartersville from Augusta and began operation of The Hargrave Store which served as the center for local commerce until it closed its doors in 1902 due to competition from larger stores onulton County became increasingly mechanized during this time period with increased production by cotton mills throughout America; however, there were still small businesses that survived until after World War II when they started to be replaced by big box stores such as Sam's Club and Wal-Mart

Cartersville is a small town in the Chattahoochee Valley of Georgia. It has been lived in by people since the late 18th century. The first European to come to Cartersville was James Carver, who arrived in 1795. At that time, it was part of the Cherokee Nation and its capital was at Muscogee (now Milledgeville). In 1820, General Andrew Jackson moved the capital to Atlanta due to political unrest within the Creek Nation. By 1830, however, most of Cartersville had grown up around Fort McDowell on the Chickasaw Nation east of town. The fort served as a military base and also stored food for soldiers garrisoned in surrounding counties during times of war. In 1881, following a feud between two families from nearby Romex Forest, settlers from Romex Forest drove away many of their Native American neighbors who had settled there since before white settlement began. Many residents of Cartersville followed suit and left for greener pastures in what is now Athens County or move back into their original homes when they became available again. However, some people remained behind until after World War II when all but one family moved out because they could no longer afford to maintain their farmsteads on small parcels of land surrounded by hostile Indian Territory (now Alabama). A few families still live here today; however much more recently they have property scattered throughout various states including Oklahoma and Arkansas
Cartersville was founded by a family of surveyors in 1811. The town grew rapidly after it was created from land that had been taken from the Cherokee people. In 1827, the town became the county seat of Chatham County. Cartersville remained an important center for trade and culture until the early 21st century.
