Cartersville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The history of Cartersville can be traced back to 1819 when Colonel John Soward and his family arrived from England with their wagon train. They soon began trading goods with the Cherokee Indians and building a store on what is now Main Street. When they died in 1826, their son John Soward Jr. took over and continued the family tradition of commerce and philanthropy. In 1875, he donated land to build Cartersville High School which became one of the most popular high schools in Atlanta area. The school remains active today as a public education institution providing top-quality education for students from pre-K through 12th grade. Today, Cartersville retains its pioneer spirit by hosting many events such as car shows, summer festivals, tractor rallies and more!

Cartersville is located in Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 12,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1811 by Captain James Carters and his wife Elizabeth. The first permanent settler in Cartersville was John Pritchard. The town reached its peak of prosperity during the early 1800s when it prospered as a cottontown due to its location on the Chattahoochee River and its access to transportation resources. However, by 1820 Cartersville had lost most of its economic significance because of new cotton plantations being established in central Georgia. In 1828, Captain Jno. Cartersville donated land to Cartersville for a public square which became known as "Cartersvillet". In 1830, George Washington Dixon bought 640 acres within the limits of present-day Cartersville from Captains James and Elizabeth Carters for $1,000 cash. Dixon named his plantation "Dixon's Valley." Dixon began farming rice and other crops on the property until his death in 1865. He bequeathed his rice crop to Georgia State University which has continued to grow it into an iconic symbol of Georgians culture today. A plaque marking Dixon's estate remains at SGU's Carter Administration Building.. Dixon also left behind a number of memorials including: a state historical marker (1927), a historic district (1949), and two schools (1893-1897). Other venerated landmarks include: Christ Church Cemetery (now known as First Baptist Church) where Captain James and Mrs. Elizabeth Carters buried their children; Stephenson House (now house museum) which served as home to General Nathan Bedford Forrest during the Civil War; Stroud House which served as Confederate Headquarters during Reconstruction; Old Hartsfield Air Force Base where General Billy Mitchell relievedGeneral Eisenhower on December 15, 1948; and Memorial Hospital now known as Cobb Regional Medical Center serving patients from all over Cobb County
Cartersville was founded in 1815 as a small community on the Chattahoochee River. The area that is now Cartersville was first settled by members of the Cherokee Nation. In 1824, General Andrew Jackson moved the Cherokee Nation's capital to Milledgeville, Georgia. When President James K. Polk moved the nation's capital from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta in 1885, Cartersville became part of the new city.
