Carrollton is a small town in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1856 by farmers from Carrollton, Virginia. The original name of the community was "Carrollstown". It was renamed after General James A. Carroll who fought in the American Civil War and later served as governor of Georgia. The first post office in Carrollton opened on July 10, 1856. The village developed around a Methodist church and school which were built between 1857 and 1861. In 1870, two brothers named John Witherspoon erected a sawmill on the Chattahoochee River west of town to provide lumber for local homes and businesses. In 1875, they sold their mill to JC Hargrave & Son Limited which became Hargrave Brothers Company Limited until it merged with NTC Timberland Incorporated in 1984 to form Hargrave Timberlands Incorporated (HTI). A large cotton gin was built near present-day Herschel Road between 1886 and 1889 by JH White & Sons Ltd., an early cottonseed business based in Decatur,. This enterprise led to increased production of cotton that helped support the growth of Carrollton over time; today it remains one of HTI's most important assets. In 1907, men from Decatur started a grocery store called Peoples Grocery which would grow into what is now known as MARGARETTE'S GRILL since its acquisition by Kroger Foodservice Holdings Inc.. In 1928, US Airways began service to Atlanta via Macon Airport making Carrolton an important transportation hub for southern Georgians during this time period; air travel would continue to be an important sector for the community until deregulation took hold in 1978 . progress continued through annexation by Gwinnett County in 1955; land use changes following World War II then suburban development ensued that has shaped much of Carrolton's character today including its high concentration of housing developments along I-285/US Highway 1N - creating one major artery within walking distance for all residents regardless socioeconomically or geographically speaking

Carrollton is a city in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,421 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Cobb County and the seventh-most populous municipality of Fulton County. The first post office in Carrollton was established on October 1, 1875. The current building was completed in 1907 and has been known as the First Baptist Church since that time. In 1909, a power plant was built just east of town and soon became one of the largest generators of electricity in southeast Georgia. From its beginnings as a small agricultural community to its major role as an agricultural center during the late 19th century and early 20th century, Carrollton had many expansions and developments throughout its history including two industrial plants—the first being built by Coca-Cola Company founder John Pemberton in 1923; and the second being built by JDC Paper Products Company president Harry Wessels in 1951; both plants closed down after years of decline. In 1990, drug company Valeant Pharmaceuticals merged with New England Medical Devices Corporation to form Valeant/New England Inc., which soon began investing heavily in new medical technology companies such as Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Autographa Therapeutics. This investment led to Valeant's eventual takeover of MylanPharma for $148 billion (2018). Today much of what made Carrollton so special has vanished away with it as Valeant has taken over much of their business with consolidation across industries becoming increasingly popular among large businesses today.
