Carrollton, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,816 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Colonel Carroll who surveyed the area in 1802. It was incorporated as a village on July 1, 1910. The history of Carrollton goes back to 1802 when Colonel James Carroll surveyed land for what would become the town of Carrollton. He named his new settlement after himself and it continues to be called "Carrollton." In 1902, the first post office opened in the town and was located on present-day Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard. When Atlanta became an independent city in 1901, Carrollton's post office closed and its residents were forced to move to new homes within Atlanta. The early years of Carrolton were difficult due to lack of resources and infrastructure but over time it has developed into one of the most successful small towns in Georgia. Today, Carrolton enjoys a strong community spirit with a wide variety of businesses and cultural activities that support its vibrant culture. Carrollton is a city in Carroll County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,355 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carroll County. The name "Carrollton" was first given to the settlement by General James Carrol after he explored and surveyed the area in 1802. The town of Carrollton was platted in 1827 by Captain John Troup as part of a larger land grant to Joshua Humphreys. In 1829, Captain Troup's brother-in-law, John Aiken donated 4 square miles (10 km2) of land east of present-day downtown Carrollton to establish what would become known as Aiken Park. President Andrew Johnson distributed $5,000 worth of land grants for townships in Georgia during his presidency on October 15, 1871. On November 3 that year, Carroll County was formed from parts of three other counties: Chatham County (to the west), Fulton County (to the south), and Barbour County (to the east). In 1830–31 Colonel Edward Hartsfield surveyor estimated that Clarke's Mill could produce annually 20 bushels (3 kg) of cornmeal and 60 pounds (27 g) of flour; however this mill never commenced operations because Hartsfield died before its completion. In 1865–66 Major George Fenton constructed a small brick gristmill on Wind Gap Creek which produced flour for local markets until it closed about 1910. By 1870 there were six businesses operating in downtown Carrollton – three grocery stores and threesmithies - with twenty-four citizens employed full time at these establishments combined; however by 1890 only one business remained open – Mr. Fenton's general store - with fifteen citizens working there full time while nine others managed their own homes or farmsteads outside town limits.[1] One hundred fifty years later Pee Dee Paper Co., an early cotton paper manufacturer located adjacent to Aiken Park 1915 still operates today as one of Glynn Power Company’s four major paper producers within Georgia employing over 1,500 workers statewide including 350 people at Pee Dee Paper Mills & Paper Handling Plant Camden Yards Enterprise Zone[2]. By 1930 only thirteen residents lived in downtown Carrollton while seventy-two worked outlying farms or businesses providing services such as agriculture,[3]and two schools had been opened since 1800 but were closed due to lack enrollment when prohibition began effective January 1st 1920:[4] thus Downtown CarrolTON became an all night "ghost town". However some residents did slowly start moving back into their homes starting around 1970 although most vacated during economic recession beginning 1990s thru 2000s.; following Hurricane Katrina many residents returned home but various infrastructure issues remain such as water main breakage and potholesstill exist making it difficult for pedestrians/ cyclists/ motor vehicles etc; also several Gaston Homes are now listed on Realtors market list but no action has been taken yet to renovate them or resale them unlike other historic properties throughout Atlanta area which have been quickly renovated & leased out

However, by 1861 Carrollton had fallen Victim to repeated Confederate attacks on nearby Atlanta, which led to its near extinction. However, despite these setbacks, Carrollton has since experienced significant resurgence in recent decades as a cultural and economic center for the surrounding region.
