Carrollton is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 24,822 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Fulton County after Atlanta. Carrollton was founded by James Carroll and named for him. A post office called Carrollton was established in 1818, and was renamed to its present name in 1881. The first settler in what would become Carrollton was James Fenton. He built a cabin on current day Spring Street on December 5, 1800. In 1802, he married Ann White and they had four children: James Fenton (1803-1892), Eliza Jane (1805-1884), Martha Anna (1809-1901) and Sarah Elizabeth (born November 10th, 1811). In 1840, James Fenton sold his land to John Crain who developed it into what is now known as downtown Carrollton. The early days of downtown were a time of great growth for Carrolton as commerce flourished with plantations supplying goods for local farmers and entrepreneurs alike produced many successful businesses including two cotton warehouses which remain extant today adjacent to each other on Commerce Street just north of Interstate 95/ US 20 exit 129A: Girdwood Cotton Warehouse Company from 1847 until 1861; Second National Cotton Warehouse from 1861 until 1865; First National Cotton Warehouse from 1865 until 1971; Hartsfield Yeomanufacturing Company from 1901 to 1907; First National Paper & News Service company from 1907 to 1912; Georgia Western Electric Railway company begun operation on January 1st 1908 ending passenger service July 30th 1912 On October 15th 1903 Mayor JF Sellers made an ordinance establishing a City Cemetery located at Seventh Avenue West between Spring Street and Easton Avenue North This cemetery served burials until May 1st 1906 when ownership passed to the University ofGeorgia Press Department which closed it following its purchase by University Museum trustees On February 16th 1906 Resolution No 3387 passed by the City Council establishes that all public property within limits of this city including but not limited to Cemetery shall be dedicated hereafter as General Motors Plant entrance lot whereupon GM moved their major manufacturing operations beginning with production of Lady Liberty Cadillacs starting March 9th 1914 thenceforth known as “GMC Place” On April Fool's Day 1909 Mayor Sellers again made an ordinance establishing a Park District boundaries extending northeasterly along 7 Mile Road including but not limited to the sites now occupied by Northwestern Mutual Building east off I-95 south across US 20 east into Druid Hills then northeasterly up Druid Hills past Gaillard Drive past Cookson Farms finally reaching its confluence with South Creek near today’s intersection of Cumberland Parkway Extension Waycross Road northeast corner thereof

Some historians claim that espresso was first prepared in Venice, Italy in 1492 by a Venetian trader, Marco Polo; while others believe that coffee was introduced to Europe by the Arabs in the ninth century. Whatever its origin, espresso quickly became a popular drink throughout much of continental Europe and North America. Barely existent records from the early 1800s document any gourmet coffee production other than what may have been consumed at court or elite resorts. However, according to legend, Baron de Rothschild discovered an Arabica bean crop near his summer home on Long Island in 1810 and began importing these beans for use in his own brewing process. From this initial discovery, Baron Rothschild helped lead the way for upscale European consumers to appreciate new world-class coffees such as Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Guatemalan Atxa. In fact, even today many people enjoy specialty coffees made within specific regions—for example Ethiopian Yirgacheffe grows mainly on Mt. Gilead in central Ethiopia; while Guatemalan Atxa is produced around Lake Atxarán on Guatemala’s eastern coast). However, due to diversification of the economy and growth in other sectors of the South, Carrollton has bounced back since its periods ofeconomic recession. Today, Carrollton is a vibrant community with many cultural attractions including four theaters located on downtown streets. There are also several shopping malls located throughout town. The area is home to several colleges including Northern Illinois University-Carrollton (NINU), Emory University- Atlanta Campus (EUA) and Appalachian State University (ASU).
