Carrollton is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,906 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County. The town was founded by General Andrew Jackson in 1802 as part of the Treaty of New York. When Jackson became president in 1829, he ordered that all Indian land east of the Chattahoochee River be surrendered to GA and Carrollton was included within this order. For many years it functioned as a military post and trading center for Native Americans on the Savannah River floodplain. In 1853, after surrounding counties were organized into districts, Carrollton became one of these districts. In 1865, Confederate General Jubal Early invaded Georgia with his main force and took advantage of Union civilian casualties to move southward and reach Atlanta before winter could cut him off from supplies and reinforcements. On October 20th, 1865 near Carrolton (then known as "King's Chapel"), Early’s army successfully overwhelmed Union forces under Major General James Heth at Battle of Peachtree Creek which resulted in 6 dead US soldiers and over 20 captured Confederates including Rear Admiral Porter who later committed suicide while Prisoner-of-War at Fort Pulaski Gulf Coast Convoy anchorage; also resulting in Most Mustered Veteran poor rating for both armies combined (Ulysses S Grant). Aftermath: The battle led to increased public interest in Confederate atrocities against Union troops throughout the South during Reconstruction efforts; this increased pressure on northern governments to apologize or face civil unrest across their territories. In 1870–1871 Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust Act which severely limited American competition in southern industries; thus contributing to economic decline and social instability throughout much of what is now Alabama through the late 19th century until World War II caused an overall resurgence in Southern industry & growth throughout most developed countries

Carrollton is a town in Stone County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1853 by General James H. Carroll and his wife Eliza A. Carrol as a small farming community on the Paulding River. In 1865, Carrollton became the county seat of Stone County after it was moved from its original location near Dahlonega to what is now Carrollton because of its strategic position on Interstate 85 and its easy access to coal resources. With the opening of the Appalachian Trail in 1937 and increased tourism throughout much of Stone County during the 1930s, development began in earnest around Carrollton and other rural communities along I-85. By 1960, most of downtown Carrollton had been built up with new businesses and apartments following an expansion campaign led by Mayor John Fetterman that saw job growth rates topping 50%. In 1997, beltway construction eliminated much of I-85's northbound through traffic so that downtown business activities increasingly centered around I-285 east which now forms much of their commercial corridor; however, downtown still contains some old brick buildings dating back to 1853 as well as many centuryold farmsteads located outside central city limits
