The USS Constitution, a Confederate States ship that served in the Union Navy during the American Civil War, was donated to the Georgia Naval Militia in 1881. The ship served as a flagship for Commodore John D. Porter during his service as Commanding Officer of the Fort McAllister navy Yard at Dahlgren, Georgia from 1885 to 1888. The Constitution was decommissioned and sold by Confederate States Naval Assets in 1865. In 1881, Commodore Porter's successor as Commanding Officer of FortMcAllister navy Yard at Dahlgren donated the USS Constitution to the Georgia Naval Militia. After serving as a flagship for Commodore Porter during his time as CO of Dahlgren, this ships became known locally as "TheConstitution." She served with distinction in both wars with her stripe indicating she had been used multiple times throughout her career- most notably during the American Civil War when she served under Admiral David Dixon Porter. After being decommissioned in 1865, she was sold by Confederate States Naval Assets and placed into commercial service until 1907 when she finally succumbed to corrosion and rust after languishing on an inactive list for over fifty years. In 2007, restoration efforts began on "TheConstitution" following a donation from entrepreneurial entrepreneur/friendship group member Leslee McIntyre-Wright who had long desired to see her restored and returned to service within her community near Calhoun where she spent many happy years moored offloaders along Paulding River before eventually retiring from active naval service in 2013 due largely to arthritis issues brought about by salt water exposure over those years. Despite some setbacks (due primarily to lack of resources), progress has been made towards restoring "TheConstitution" back into operational condition; however, there is still much work remaining which will require significant financial investment - something which Leslee remains committed to achieving through fundraising support offered through friends & family members across America (and beyond). Calhoun is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Calhoun were French traders and missionaries in 1694. A trading post named "Castle Hill" was established in 1702 by General James Oglethorpe and his men who had been sent by the British Parliament to explore new territory in North America. The next year, Captain John Smith discovered what would become Calhoun while on a voyage from Jamaica to England and made an landed purchase of land from the Ogeechorpes for £540 sterling. In 1734, Present-day Fulton County was formed from portions of Georgia and South Carolina when those states gained their independence from Great Britain. At that time, much of present-day Calhoun County lay within what is now known as Cobb County and portions of today's Montgomery County were included within present-day Gwinnett County at that time. In 1802, part of current Sandersville Township became part of neighboring Decatur Township when it was purchased by George Rogers Clark from Andrew Cobb for $1,200 dollars cash plus two slaves per acre (about $ ). During Reconstruction era (1868–1877), many African Americans left southern states for northern cities due to political changes which occurred after the American Civil War ended slavery in America. Many white people also left during this time because they did not want black people living around them permanently. Some white people decided to move into areas which were then considered Negro sections because they wanted access to those resources which black people could not have easily access such as jobs or education opportunities given that they lived near white residents who already had these resources available to them without having to work hard for it. This process led some whites who desired more equality for blacks than existed before the war to come up with legislation called The Enabling Act of 1865 which granted voting rights specifically to citizens of African descent who resided in certain designated areas west of Mississippi River including parts of Georgia and Alabama where there were no black residents yeteligible for voting privileges according as early as 1868; thus beginning integration into American society begun among some African Americans prior to achieving full citizenship status under law four years later on July 4th, 1871 when all former Confederate States came fully under Union rule following the Compromise Of 1875 agreement between Northerners and Southern Democrats seeking peace following Sherman’s March on Washington resulting in over 600 dead & 5000 wounded federal troops & civilians combined

Calhoun is a small town in Georgia, located east of Atlanta. It was founded by the Rev. James Calhoun in 1831 and named for his father, John Calhoun. As of the 2010 census, the population was 599. The community is part of Fulton County and is located within the City of Decatur. The first settler in what is now Calhoun was Drury Covington, who arrived in 1798 from North Carolina with his family. Other early settlers included Alexander McNeely and John Noble Cary. In 1801, Reverend James Calhoun moved to what is now Calhoun from Statesboro with his family and began preaching the gospel to farmers and others near present-day Decatur Street and Lumpkin Avenue. In 1802, he organized a Methodist church which met onpresent-day Banking Street until it burned down in 1806; Reverend James then built a new building on present-day Fourth Street which served as the church's headquarters until it burned down again in 1830. As per state law at that time white men could not own land west of an Appalachian Mountains ridge without gaining exclusive title from Native American tribes or purchasing their land from them through treaty negotiations conducted between whites and these tribesmen; thus most white Georgians west of this line held no more than ten acres (4 hectares). However some did own significant tracts including those around Decatur where Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest owned 640 acres ((40 square miles)) between Gumtree Road(now Donnellson Parkway) north to Keepaway Creek(), south along Howell Road (), east along Milledgeville Pike () into Indian Territory but never sold or leased it out (). Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 640 acres adjacent to what are now parts of Decatur Township from Samuel Bassett Moore for $2 million dollars through bargain hunting in 1918 after years effort by Forrest's political advisor Colonel Jesse Ewing Sears (). Afterward many additional parcels were acquired by various citizens or government officials over the years totaling nearly 4 times as much real estate as today's total area within Fulton County limits (). In 1930 almost seventy percent (.77%)of Fulton County's current boundaries were defined when same became effective following ratification by voters thereof de jure under State Constitution article II Section 1-. Prior thereto only thirty percent (.25%)was annexed [] because then existing counties exceeded authorized extent .
