Buford is a town located in southeastern Georgia. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bulloch County. In recent years, Buford has become known for its manufacturing and agricultural industries. Buford was named after General James Buford, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. senator from Georgia. The name "Buford" likely came from an Algonquian word meaning "the place where buffalo are found." General Buford had several thousand cattle that he drove throughout much of what is now Georgia during his time as governor of that state from 1798 to 1800. The first settler in what is now Buford was John Witherspoon, who arrived there in 1837. Witherspoon built a log cabin on land leased from the Cherokee Nation by Captured Indian trader Levi Coffin alias DeKalb Boone IV./John Wesley Hardin (1802-1875). At first, only men were allowed to live here; but soon women also started coming overland from Tennessee to work on Bennett's Creek farmstead north of Athens (now Tellico Hills) and other settlements around this area………. By 1840 most residents were white men living among white people while Indians continued to use the area for their hunting grounds…………… A post office was established at Bufford east of present day downtown on July 4th 1836 by Rev Solomon Cobb with mail delivered through Mr Hays' teamsters……………. In 1849 Mrs Fannie White established a school south of her home…………………………………………………………………………………………….. By 1860 about 50% of all business done in town went into farming activities with flour being produced for local markets…………………. cotton ginners erected large sheds near creek for storage purposes…………….. A mill operated by Elijah Butler between 1865 and 1870 provided employment for many people…………………. One early family resident George Eaton became president pro tem of the State Senate in 1901 In 1861 following Confederate Gen Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House, most Southerners turned their attention towards Reconstructionville which lay just outside their states borders Southwestern Georgians felt they needed something more than white rule so they quickly organized themselves into groups called Jubilee Planters which aimed to give black Georgians access to education, jobs, healthcare and power In 1871 Elijah Butler erected a large two story brick building on Main Street west of downtown which housed his mills until it burned down in 1935 During World War I when many businesses closed because supplies ran out due mainly to prohibition troops began raiding homes looking for alcohol which lead directly to social unrest leading eventually TO civil service dismissal campaigns against mostly black citizens including African Americans working as soldiers or docker farmers during World War I

Buford, Georgia is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Georgians. The population was 4,811 at the 2010 census. It is included within the Atlanta metropolitan area. Buford was founded in 1837 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and named for General James Buford, who died in 1820. The community was first served by a post office called Post Office Hill until it was renamed Buford in 1942 to honor U.S. Senator from Georgia James Fenton Buford Jr.. In 1954, the post office moved to its current location on State Street. The community has been home to many notable people over the years, including football players Herschel Walker and Curtis Martin as well as actresses Sally Field and Jane Seymour. In 1966, Buford received city status which made it one of only five cities in Alabama that did not become part of Atlanta during the process of becoming a city state. The city has since experienced a period of growth with new businesses being opened up such as an insurance company and a hospital as well as renovations to several buildings including City Hall and Main Street Schoolhouse which have brought about new life to the townscape.

In 1847, Buford became the capital of Georgia, and for many years it was one of the most important cities in the state.
