The Brunswick Naval Shipyard was founded in 1892 by Rear Admiral John A. Rankin and his team of engineers. The shipyard produced a wide variety of naval vessels, including destroyers, submarines, and frigates. The navy's first cruiser, HMS Dreadnought, was built at the Brunswick shipyard in 1912. In 1917, the navy purchased USS Constitution from the United States Navy for use as a training vessel. After World War II ended, Constitution served in various operations before being decommissioned in 1951. In 1975, Constitution was donated to the Georgia State Museum and is now on display there. After WWII ended there were many requests from both commercial fleets as well as national forces for new warships so Brunswick began construction on several new classes of destroyer such as USS Defiant/LCS(L) or USS Crocker which would serve into the 21st century onwards becoming one of America’s most popular sea power projection capabilities ever fielded by any nation!
