The company grew rapidly, purchasing land throughout the town of Brunswick and growing coffee beans on their own farmstead for sale to customers in the town and surrounding counties. In 1924, the McConnell family sold the business to George W. Smith, who continued to operate it until his death in 1957. The Brunswick Coffee Company was then passed down through three generations of stewards until it was purchased by James McNaught in 1984. In 1830, when American Revolutionary War veteran General Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived at Augusta on the Chattahoochee River to begin his war against British forces, he selected this location as his new military encampment and named it "Brunswick." After many years of development, construction began on what would become the first courthouse in Brunswick – located on High Street between Court House Square and College Avenue - during the 1840s under guidance of James Moultrie, an influential landowner who had come to know Forrest well. By 1865, however, due to various factors including political unrest throughout much of America following Reconstruction (the period after Reconstruction that followed Civil War racism), only three buildings remained standing within town limits: court house (now demolished), frame schoolhouse (now used as apartments), and frame jail/prison (now known as The Cobb Hotel). During World War II, local farms were turned into airfields for use by both Allied forces and Japan; after hostilities ended bombing raids resumed which caused significant damage to local infrastructure including churches which had been converted into barracks forAAF personnel; some structures remain today including an aerial photo control tower which served as headquarters for RAF Coastal Command during bomb attacks over England during World War II; also remaining are several WWI era artillery pieces formerly positioned near Schoolhouse Road where numerous airstrikes have occurred over time including one resulting in damage to a church building; ground zero for multiple WWII bombings took place nearby at Park Road airfield with consequent loss or destruction of homes nearby also resulting from firesbombing activity such as that seen at Athens-Chatham Airport days later that year

Brunswick has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and its first European settlers arrived in 1784. The community was founded as a ferry landing on riverboats called "The Dolphin" and "The President." In 1802, Brunswick became an incorporated city under the name of Augusta after General James Kenedy's military victory over forces led by Andrew Jackson at Battle of Bridgeport Landing. In 1912, Brunswick merged with Athens to form the Athens–Brunswick Metropolitan Area which had a population of 12,000 residents as of 2000. In 1840, Captain George Washington Perry set up a wharf in what is now downtown Brunswick on land that later became known as Perry Parkette for his new cotton plantation called "Mystic". Perry's slave cabin still stands today next to the wharf where he unloaded his slaves from boats during harvest season
