Bainbridge is located in Pickens County, Georgia. The population was 5,871 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Athens-Clarke metropolitan area. Bainbridge's history dates back to 1820 when it was named for Captain James Bainbridge of HMS Beagle who explored the Southeast coast of Africa. In 1890, a post office called Bainbridge was established and remained in operation until 1907. The town became an unincorporated community after that date. The first settler in what is now Bainbridge was Ebenezer Thomas who arrived on July 3, 1820. He and his family were the first people to settle in what would become Bainbridge. Thomas built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the ocean and named his settlement after himself – Baker Island or “Bain Bridge” because he had been sailing out of Savannah every week during those early days of exploration with HMS Beagle. One of EBENEZER THOMAS' two daughters married WILLIAM KNOX who came over from Augusta, Georgia around 1824 and settled down on what would become known as Bayou Road near present day Bainbridge Boulevard which ran along the ocean shoreline then just offshore from where Ebenezer Thomas had built his cabin some years earlier (Figure 1). The other daughter married JAMES BAILEY who also came over around this time and settled down about one mile east of Bayou Road on land now known as Fenway Park Drive between Bakemona Drive and Elm Street ( Figure 2 ).James Bailey started out small farming but soon developed into one of Mobile County's most prominent landowners through purchase, donation, or exchange of land with other county officials including Judge John Troup along with several plantations he owned across Florida Territory including Winter Garden Plantation near Tallahassee Bayou Road became known as Edward Hines Boulevard which still exists today as part of I-10 Extension southbound lanes running parallel to US Highway 10A just past downtown Athens While much has changed since ebenezer thomas original settlement - such as bayous name being changed multiple times throughout its history - many important aspects have remain largely unchanged such as local grocery stores (Ebenezer’s Store & Grill), radio station WWSB-FM broadcasting from modern day Fenway Park Drive adjacent to Hines Boulevard & Bayou Road; locally produced films shot at historic Baldwin Studios located within walking distance; professional athletes like University Of Georgia football coach Brent Searles playing golf at nearby Pinehurst Resort Golf Course; etc.; it remains a small town filled with history, culture and people that enjoy living close to natureKaren Weaver

Bainbridge is a small town in north Georgia, United States. Bainbridge was founded in 1802 by Major General James Wilkinson and his wife Betsy. The town became a Seminole Indian village after the war. After the war, Bainbridge became part of the United States following the Treaty of Paris. In 1870, Bainbridge was merged with Muskegee into Muskegee County. The area now known as Bainbridge had been settled since 1785 by people from South Carolina and Virginia who named it for Colonel John Barron, an American Revolutionary War soldier and member of the Georgia Assembly. The first settler in what is now Bainbridge was Captain George Richardson, who arrived on May 12, 1785, from Augusta Parish in South Carolina. He built a small cabin on a bend in the Chattahoochee River near present-day Fort Payne before moving to what is now downtown Bainbridge on December 25 of that year. Captain Richardson's cabin still stands today near Third Street and US 27/GA 10 (now US 278). Captain Richardson's successor was Captain Charles Goodloe who built a cabin on lot number fourty-eight opposite Salt Lake Cemetery about two miles northeast of present day downtown Bainbridge on October 26, 1786. Goodloe also built another small cabin at Point Lookout fortification about three miles due south of present day downtown Bainbridge on November 3rd . These early settlers were followed by others over time including Increase Marston who arrived July 1st , 1800 from NorfolkVa., Capt John Surry September 3d 1800 from PortsmouthNc., James Denton January 20th 1802 from Chowan Co., Rufus King February 15th 1803 from Brunswick parish Nc., Ebenezer Cook November 5th 1804from Accomack county Va.. Cook moved to Savannah Ga when he married there around 1830 The first post office at Bainbridge was established on October 1st , 1800 under the name "Chowan". It changed its name to "Bainbridge" on May 6th , 1801 after becoming part of Muskegee County following its merger with Muskegee County
