Gourmet Coffee History in Bainbridge, Georgia started with a small coffee shop on the corner of Union and Tryon Streets. The first customer was Mrs. Lillian Smith, who purchased a bag of coffee from the shop in 1951. In 1984, Mr. and Mrs. Rick Hubbard opened Gourmet Coffee & Tea on Main Street in Bainbridge. The shop became known for their high-quality coffee and tea products. In 2007, the Hubbard's closed their business due to health concerns but reopened under new ownership as Gourmet Coffee & Tea 2140 N Tryon Street in Bainbridge soon after. Today, Gourmet Coffee & Tea is one of the most popular cafes in town with customers from all over Georgia come to enjoy their delicious java drinks and amazing scones!
Bainbridge is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 707 at the 2010 census. The name of the town came from Captain George Bainbridge and his family who settled there in 1785. Bainbridge was laid out as a village on July 10, 1806 by James Denton and it became a city on December 5, 1907. On February 25, 1912, Bainbridge was merged with Roswell to form the new city of Roswell. In 1964, Bainbridge became an incorporated city again when it passed an ordinance to become one under the laws of Georgia. The current mayor is Donnie Burchfield and the City Council has four members. Bainbridge is located in south-central Fulton County at (34.660971,-83.859563). It is bordered by Roswell to the north, Decatur to the east, Gainesville to the south and Chattanooga to the west. According to the USGS National Map released in 2008, Bainbridge has a total area of , all land within its municipal boundaries including any water supplies or lakes administered by that municipality or annexed thereto: . As of the census of 2010,[1] there were 707 people residing in Bainbridge Township;[2] 711 households;[3] and 244 families residing within cities ofRoswell (total population 1,567) or Greater Roswell (1,853).[4] There are no villages within Atlanta metropolitan area limits since they have been amalgamated into larger cities such as Atlanta proper or Sandy Springs/Milton-Atlanta.[5][6][7][8][9] The racial makeup of Bainbridge was 98% white,[10][11][12] 2% black or African American,[13] 0% Native American,[14], and 0% Asian.[15]. American Coffeehouse keeper Samuel Morse developed the first electric signifying machine that could be used to control how much caffeine was served inside each café. This innovation helped promote contemporary French-style cafés over traditional British ones and eventually made espresso available to Americans on a wider scale. Throughout these years, various coffees have been produced including Sumatraica (now known as Indonesia), Kenyan Kupuka (a type of dark roast), Robusta (formerly called Colombian) and Arabica (now known as Ethiopian). By 1888, Bainbridge had a population of approximately 100 residents. Today, Bainbridge remains an important community with a rich cultural heritage that includes several restaurants and shops as well as a number of educational institutions including Gwinnett Technical College.
