The CG stations were a result of the need for coast guard personnel to provide security on the island during the days when it was not part of Georgia. As USCG assumed responsibility for all U.S.CG stations, Station Bainbridge ceased operations and was converted into a museum in 1951. The museum contains artifacts from both prior to CG Station Bainbridge’s establishment and through its current incarnation as an official museum and research center for Coast Guard History and Heritage Site in Marcusburg, Virginia, which is located adjacent to GCBIS HQ on Hilton Head Island where many historic relics are also displayed including Cutter “Hancock” (1897),Destroyer “Eagle” (1920),and Helicopter Launch Platform (1948). In addition to its holdings within the Museum itself there are numerous rare items that have been donated by individuals or organizations who wished to support our mission or contribute something unique to our collection including: three World War II era surplus minesweepers (1945-46) donated by USS Grunion; two model HVAC systems from Clearwater Air National Guard Base Florida; five types of YMCA cabin tents; one type of life jacket made from salvaged naval corps clothing; several pieces of navy equipment such as an inch torpedo tube launcher/launcher group and associated gear from USS Ponce (1939); circa 1900 Dinghy 1935 built at Ocala Beach FL by WOODSON RAY COAST GUARD COMPANY The list goes on but these are just a few examples illustrating how community stakeholders have contributed over time towards helping us maintain our core mission while also enhancing our visitor experience.

Bainbridge is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 4,699 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Bainbridge is located on the Chattahoochee River. The first settlers in Bainbridge were white Methodist Baptists from North Carolina who came to what is now southeastern Georgia in 1814 and named it for General George Washington Bainbridge. In 1816, Colonel John Mercer established a trading post here with his brother-in-law James Dickson and others. The post served as an important center for trade with the nearby Cherokee Nation and the states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia until it was destroyed by Indians in 1826. In 1828, General Andrew Jackson issued an order forbidding white men from settling on Indian reservations east of the Chattahoochee River because they were "a source of annoyance to these people." This order led to a large influx of white farmers into southeast Georgia and northcentral Alabama due to Jackson's policies; by 1830 there were over 1,000 white families living in Bainbridge. However, when Jackson was impeached in 1841 he lost control of American politics and many farms became national property during this time period known as Reconstruction: blacks were banned from owning land except throughiantly leased from whites under various rules and regulations set by successive federal administrations In 1865, after Confederate forces had surrendered at Appomattox Court House following their defeat at Battle of Gettysburg all southern states seceded from the Union - that day Bainbridge became one of several towns within Confederate territory across northeast Georgia (the rest eventually joined Union lines). At that time much property along present-day I-5 was within Confederate boundaries including much of what is now downtown Bainbridge most notably Fort McAllister which served as rebel headquarters during the war era After Reconstruction ended African Americans regained some rights but many black residents continued to live throughout most if not all aspects of local life until 1970s when school desegregation finally ended segregationist practices throughout Fulton County

Bainbridge, Georgia was founded in 1802 by Captain John Bainbridge and his family. The Bainbridges were the first white settlers in what is now known as Georgia. They named the town after their son, James Bainbridge. In 1811, Captain Bainbridge and his family moved to what is now known as Savannah, Georgia. The Bainbridges played a significant role in Savannah's early history and are buried there. After the death of Captain John Bainbridge in 1825, his widow married General Andrew Jackson. Their children also became important figures in Savannah's history. Mrs. Jackson served as Mayor of Savannah from 1851 to 1860 and was later elected President of the United States (1865-1869). her husband died at age 80 years old after serving two terms as president. During their time as mayor, Mrs. Jackson helped establish many civic institutions including the Savannah Maritime Museum and the first public library west of the Mississippi River
Bainbridge was founded by a group of Loyalists in 1775. The community grew slowly but steadily over the years, becoming a thriving center for trade and commerce. By 1801, Bainbridge had more than 100 residents. In 1814, Bainbridge became the county seat of DeKalb County. The town continued to grow and prosper during the late 19th century, thanks in part to its location on the railroad network and its role as a center for education. However, economic conditions began to worsen during the Great Depression and World War II; Bainbridge lost much of its population and wealth throughout the latter period. Today, it is an unremarkable town with few real attractions other than its statistical significance as one of only two counties in Georgia that did not experience a major social or cultural trend sweep through their communities during the 20th century.
