In 1814 General Andrew Jackson captured Savannah () relieving Major General Winfield Scott (), who had been leading American troops againstGeneral Nathaniel Banks' Creek Nation forces south of present day Chattanooga (). Aftermathofthe battle called Forciblybayou (Chattahoochee) Campaign), general Jackson moved his army upriver towards Macon County () where he met with Marshal Josiah Gregg (), commanderofan detachment under Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Forbes (). Gregg advisedJackson not pursue Banks but instead march north through central Georgia into Alabama where Banks was entrenched .After several dayslong skirmishes near Moultonborough () northeast of present day Macon County (), Jackson arrived at Blackwater Gap ()) nearpresent day Chattanooga() September 12thand 13th1814). On September 15th whileJackson was resting his army outside Blackwater Gap(), a groupof Creeks led by Chief Attalaecus reachedmanaging headquartersat proximal Chilton Barracks(). In 1847, a man named John Fenton started a small batch of coffee beans in his home.
