Tactical Coffee History in Americus, Georgia began with the first coffee house opened in 1901. It was the only coffee house on a street called Main Street that served coffee to the citizens of Americus. At that time, there were no Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts chains operating in America. The first coffee shop was a small and frequented business by local farmers and their families who would come to buy their morning caffeine fix from the store's proprietor. In 1912, Mr. John Waddell started brewing his own coffee at his home and selling it directly to customers through his door. In 1916, he opened a second location on Monroe Street which became known as 'The Coffee House'. In 1919, he added creamers to his product line and changed the name of the store to 'The Creamery'. In 1923, he sold all of his assets to Harry Anderson who continued running The Coffeeshop until its closure in 1984. In 1984, Mr. Anderson donated all of The Creamery's inventory (including its cupboards) to Americus Community College for use as part of the college's library collection. Today, some of those cupboards are still located withinAmericus Community College's library system where students can enjoy tactical coffee every day!

Americus is a small town in Georgia. It is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, about 25 miles west of Savannah. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Americus has been inhabited for over a thousand years, according to oral history. The first Europeans to visit Americacus were French traders and missionaries in 1606. They named it after Aix-la-Chapelle, France. In 1763, American Revolutionary War General John George Washington stopped at Americus while campaigning against the British in southern Georgia. The town was founded in 1817 by Captain James Cook when he explored what is now Georgia and South Carolina on his Discovery Expedition. He named it after himself, James Cook (1728-1814), leader of the expedition that discovered Australia and New Zealand. Americus grew rapidly during its early years as an agricultural center; cotton plantations were established here between 1825 and 1850. But during the 1830s, rapid new development brought disease and economic ruin to many local farmers; Americus became one of the most impoverished towns in Georgia until well into the 20th century. During World War II, Americus played an important role as a military training ground for Georgians serving in overseas campaigns such as D-Day and Normandy Operation Overlord. Afterward, many Atlantans moved here to rebuild following the war effort; however, much progress had been made by this time with investment from outside investors which helped resurrect downtown businesses including a movie theater (the only one remaining from that period), several restaurants/bars/cafes/shops, a library (opened in 1985), and more than half a dozen schools including two high school football teams (one currently playing in League City). By 2000 Africushare had become one of fastest growing shopping malls in Fulton County with anchor stores Sears Holdings Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Inc., Macy's Inc., Buckminster Fuller Museum & Library, Home Depot Inc., Finish Line Stores Inc., etc.). On July 12th 2016 Africushare announced they are closing all their stores due to financial difficulties

The city changed its name to Americus after World War I when America had become divided into two opposing camps: those who wanted to keep their original name and those who adopted New York City's nickname of "The Happy City". Americus' economy has been based largely on agriculture since its founding and manufacturing began only after World War II. Today, Africus is known for its Georgian architecture and rich history which dating back to when it served as a stop on the Underground Railroad during the antebellum period. Additionally, Africus contains many businesses that are vital to the local economy such as JBL Rubber Co., Coca-Cola Bottling Plant #1 (the first Coca-Cola bottling plant in North America), PGA TOUR golf courses including Roswell Golf Club and Stiles Country Club, Philips Electronics Inc.'s Southside plant which employs over 2,000 people, Americusshopping mall located adjacent to downtown Africus which includes more than 350 stores along with several restaurant chains including Carl's Jr., KFC, Pizza Hut and Wendy's - all of which are major players in the local community economy.

He named it for American colonists who had settled there, as well as for the Strait of Georgia, which separates Asia from Europe. The town grew rapidly after it was platted and began to serve as a port for goods going up the Alabama River. In 1821, Americus became an incorporated city with a population of about 1,500. It was renamed Atlanta in 1847 after its founder, Dr. John Cushing (1768-1851), who served as mayor and first judge of Fulton County from 1824 to 1830.
