As a result, two very different coffees came into existence – Ethiopian Yirgacheffe vs Colombian Robusta – bothof which are still fairly popular today despite their unique flavors and origins. In 1969–1970, Dutch researchers found that they could improve roasted bean quality by adding oils or fats directly onto roasted beans rather than mixed with water prior to roasting them (this change helped reduce bitterness levels) resulting in what is now known as Dutch Roasted Bean Coffee (/roaster/or /coffee/shop). Over time this shift towards better quality has become common practice all over the world; however there are some notable exceptions such as Ethiopian Yirgacheffe which still uses water-based roasts exclusively today due its unique flavor profile.
