The first shipyard that was built specifically for navy ships was established here in 1814 by Captains John Aiken and Alexander Brownell under the name of “Aiken & Brownell” Shipbuilding Company. Funding came from Queen Anne’s gold mine which opened up near Irondequoit shortly thereafter. In 1861, Confederate forces captured this shipyard during the Atlanta Campaign and burned it down; however, the structure still stands today as an example of how naval vessels could be built quickly given inadequate resources back then (today’s shipyards are much more able to handle such large projects). After the Civil War ended, things slowly returned to normal until World War II hit America hard – all sea-based industries were destroyed or greatly impacted including navy gift history here in Albany! These warships patrolled offshore waters searching for any Japanese submarines operating within 1 nautical mile radius thereof while simultaneously conducting various air strikes against enemy targets inside Japan using USAF B-29 Superfortresses . However due to bad weather conditions most missions were aborted or rescheduled prior to their conclusion resulting in some losses amongst these aircraft carriers .....
