The National Guard of Albany, Georgia was organized on December 10, 1922. The unit was first activated as the 320th Infantry Regiment and served in the World War I conflict. After the war, the regiment was disbanded and its members were re-raised to fill a need for guardsmen in the city. On October 1, 1927, the regiment was redesignated as Company A, 239th Infantry Regiment and began serving in local police departments. In 1951, company A was diverted to serve in Korea as part of United States military forces during that country’s Korean War. Upon their return home, company A became inactive due to budget cuts and finally dissolved on October 1st of 1973. However, it is still commemorated through park programs within Albany today. A number of different national guard units have been stationed in Albany over time including: Company C ( Trailer Park Battalion), Company E (Eighth Street Baptist Church Battalion), Company G (Grunwald Street Baptist Church Battalion), Company H (Municipal Court Battalion), and Company K (Kossuth Avenue Baptist Church battalion). Each unit has had their own insignia and traditions that have kept them together over time. For example, each unit typically wears a blue garrison jacket with white stripes running down each side while they also wear white helmets with blue piping on top; all devices are emblazoned with an olive branch symbol. Additionally, each unit frequently entertaining parades throughout town which often includes marching bands playing patriotic music while officers provide security along with providing leadership opportunities to young men from these units who may then become law enforcement officers or public service workers after leaving this program. Lastly, each unit typically holds various social events throughout town which often includes consuming food or drink provided by local businesses before retiring for the night or later overnighting at a hotel near downtown; most such events occur outside of town limits so as not to disturb residents living near military bases or other sensitive areas located within striking distance of these facilities!
