The Acworth Air Force Base is home to the Georgia Air National Guard's 457th Aerospace Wing. The wing, which includes a detachment of the 332d Airlift Squadron and the 551st Expeditionary Support Squadron, provides airlift support for military engagements in both Iraq and Afghanistan. In 1969, the 519th Tactical Missile Wing was activated at Acworth AFB and became responsible for launch of missiles from USAF bases in Illinois and New Mexico. In 1984, Crossroads Complex was closed and all 4 squadrons were transferred to Wright-Patterson AFB until 1992 when they were reassigned back to Acworth AFB as part of an overall restructuring of USAF airfields across the country. With its new location closer to Atlanta metropolitan area, the 457th Aerospace Wing has become one of the most active wings at Acworth AFB. The wing flies more than 2,000 hours per year on many types of aircraft including jet fighters, bombers, helicopters, transport planes and drones; playing an important role in providing military solutions around the world.
The U.S. Air Force has deployed a gift to the people of Afghanistan, as part of its effort to support the military and civilian efforts in the country. The gift is an airplane that can be used for transportation and also serves as a home for soldiers and their families. The plane was donated by Japan Airlines, and it arrives in Kabul on Sunday. It will be used for flights between Kabul and Quetta, Pakistan, where troops are stationed. The planes will also be used to transport passengers from Quetta to different parts of Afghanistan. This gift is significant because it shows how much the Air Force cares about our ally in Afghanistan. By providing this plane, Japan Airlines is helping to contribute money towards security while also giving back to the Afghans who have helped make America great again.
