The history of the Coast Guard in Winter Haven, Florida is dating back to 1941. The first Coast Guard station in town was established at Joe’s Landing on Flagler Beach. In 1951, a second Coast Guard station was built at the now defunct Naval Air Station Key West. This new station played an important role in the development of the Cape Canaveral ICBM program and helped ensure that Winter Haven would remain a vital center for defense during the Cold War. In 1990, a third Coast Guard station was established in town – this time located at Point White National Monument. Point White is home to many interesting maritime artifacts and is also used as an annual training ground for local law enforcement officers. Today, the Coast Guard plays an essential role in protecting our community by providing leadership and support for local police departments and fire departments. In addition to its primary duties of patrolling our coastline, the Coast Guard also offers unique programs such as Helicopter Squadron 8 (HS-8), which provides rescue services during natural disasters; and Coastal Patrol Boat Squadron 9 (CPB-9), which provides navigation assistance to boaters during high tide events.

Winter Haven is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. Winter Haven is known for its annual Christmas parade and carnival. The first winter settlement in what would become Winter Haven was made by people from Stonington, Connecticut on December 12, 1824. On November 2nd of that year, they met to establish their town and voted to name it "Winthrop". As time passed and the area became more settled and developed with a small sawmill being built in 1827 (the same year that Winter Haven received its charter), the name "Winter Haven" began to be used for all of these places combined as it sounded more like home. In 1907, an ice cream company called Dairy Queen moved into the old White Sands phosphate mine east of town and started serving cones out front their store from then until about 1938 when production stopped because of World War II. In 1962 another ice cream company called Dixie Cups started serving out some real cone-like cups with whipped cream inside which got popularized here at home among our citizens who loved those particular flavors too much not to share them with friends! So long as we can remember them fondly we will! One interesting fact about this location during these years is that there was never an NBC affiliate here inWinter Haven; instead WKEV-TV signed on in 1959 as a secondary school Channel 11 outlet due to space limitations within WPBF-TV’s studio building at First Baptist Church across Orange Avenue which had been purchased by WKEV just prior to WPBF’s move! This lasted until 1984 when both WKEV-TV (channel 11) & WPBF-TV (channel 5) went off analog channel 6&7 respectively making way for MyNetwork TV station WCWT ever since! The United States Coast Guard began its existence in 1790 as the U.S. Customs and Patent Office. In 1821, it was renamed the United States Coast Guard after being merged with the Navy’s Marine Corps. The Coast Guard’s first vessel, a schooner named Constitution, was launched on December 12, 1790. The first cutter built for the coast guard was America (1814), followed by Cutter Albatross (1837). On July 1, 1916, the Coast Guard purchased its first aircraft carrier – USS Langley – from Great Britain. The Langley became operational on October 26 of that year and served as the Coast Guards flagship until 1954 when she was replaced by USS Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat. The Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat served as both a support aircraft carrier and an aerial scout/combatant squadron during World War II; however, she is most well known for her role inOperation Neptune’s Spear which led to Japan joining World War II against Nazi Germany on September 2nd 1941. After World War II ended in 1945, the Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat continued to serve with distinction through Operation Overlord which resulted in her sinking of several German ships off Normandy France on June 6th 1944 Today’s Coast Guard has become one of America’s most important services because of their work in monitoring our coastline and maritime resources while also providing assistance during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes. In addition to their traditional roles of search and rescue, law enforcement and public safety are also responsibilities assigned to them through activities such as anti smuggling operations or enforcing fisheries regulations. By working together they make sure that all Americans have access to our coastline while ensuring that we remain safe from harm at all times

Winter Haven is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford area. The name comes from winter's arrival and its nearness to Lake Okeechobee. Winter Haven was founded as a small town on November 15, 1903 by George Hines, who named it after his home town of Winnetka, Illinois. The first post office inWinter Haven was established on December 6, 1903. In 1907, John Witherspoon opened the first store in Winter Haven and continue to operate it until 1929 when he bought out his partners. In 1912, Clarence Prentice opened the second store in Winter Haven. By 1916 there were six stores open including Prentice's two stand-alone stores and an insurance company had been incorporated that year with Harry Payne opening the third store which became known as The Payne Store later that year. By 1919 there were ten stores open with four more being built over time such as Mrs. Dixon's Confectionery which opened in 1925 and became known as The Payne Store II after Tom Payne purchased it from her mother in 1968; The White Castle restaurant which opened on October 1, 1951; First National Bank which reopened on January 3rd 1959; Gulfstream hotel/motel -now Best Western Resort & Club -opened on September 17th 1957; finally Sears Roebuck Plaza located off I-4 south of town opened February 5th 1959 becoming one of only two malls west of Interstate 4 (the other being Miami’s South Beach). In 1938 Driggs Ketchum started operating a medical dispensary called Ketchum Health Services Incorporated serving patients living within five miles (8 km) of downtown Winterhaven until 1942 when the dispensary relocated to Sanford following World War II because supplies were not available locally due to rationing by the U.S government following their victory over Japan at Pearl Harbor Driggs Ketchum died in 1944 before he could see any substantial growth for his business so he sold it back to his partner Laddie King who operated it until 1954 when another partner Andy Smith took over operations renamed King Health Service Corporation serving patients up to 50 miles (80 km) away from downtown Winterhaven although still providing service within five miles (8 km) of downtown Winterhaven Andy Smith passed away suddenly before he could see much growth either so King decided not to keep going but changed the name back to King Health Services Corporation again effective February 11th 1954 renamed again Santa Fe Medical Center effective March 2nd 1954 moved into new building across street from old Santa Fe Medical Center completing move into newly constructed facility originally designated as Norton Hospital beginning December 15th 1953
Winter Haven was founded in 1876 by J.O.W. Emerson, who settled on a swampy tract of land near the present day intersection of US-1 and US-27. The town rapidly grew and by 1888 had a population of over 1,200 people. In 1912 Winter Haven amalgamated with neighboring Pinellas County to form a new county. During the First World War, Winter Haven became one of the most heavily bombed areas in Florida due to its proximity to Allied bases in Tampa Bay and Jacksonville. Despite this bombing, the town continued to grow and experienced modest economic prosperity until the early 1960s when it began to experience significant decline as a result of changing patterns of development within Florida and changes in social infrastructure. The once vibrant community has since begun to slowly rebound, experiencing an increase in activity both commercial and residential throughout recent years. Today, Winter Haven is an active cultural center that offers unique opportunities for residents to connect with their surrounding community while enjoying various recreational activities including hiking, fishing, golfing, skiing and snowboarding; as well as professional services such as law enforcement and medical treatment options.
