Tamarac, Florida is a city located in Palm Beach County. It was founded in 1913 and has a population of over 126,000 people. The city is known for its naval installations, which include the USS Tampa (AO-10) and USS Miami (AO-8). In 2016, the city hosted the Navy's Flag Officer Academy. The Tampa Bay Naval Base was built in 1918 on land that once belonged to the Fort Brooke mission station. The base served as a training ground for naval personnel during World War II. The Tampa Bay Naval Base also housed the first intercontinental ballistic missile launch site in the United States. In 1992, the Tampa Bay Naval Base was transferred to the Department of Defense and became known as Ft. Lauderdale Army Air Field . The base remains an active military installation and is home to multiple squadrons of air defense missiles and fighter planes . In 2006, Ft. Lauderdale Army Air Field became part of Joint Task Force Southwest Florida . This joint task force provides intelligence support to Operation Neptune's Spear , a military operation taking place in Afghanistan . In 2014, it was announced that Ft. Lauderdale Army Air Field would be sold to private developers and become an airport known as "Ft Lauderdale Sunport Airport" . As part of this sale process, it was decided that all of Fort Lauderdale's naval installations would be moved out of town and into what would become Sunport Airport As part of this move, most of USS Miami's original equipment were donated to Sunport Airport The City Council voted on November 15th , 2016 to rename Sunport Airport Tamarac Municipal Airport after Admiral James E Halsey Jr who commanded US Fleet Forces Europe during World War II

The USS Constitution (1797) was a United States Navy ship that served in the War of 1812. In 1814, the Constitution was stationed in Tampa, Florida and became involved in the Seminole Wars. In 1825, the Constitution sailed from Tampa to Havana, Cuba as part of the first American naval squadron to visit Cuba since independence. In 1830-31, Commodore John Rodgers commanded the Constitution during an expedition against Mobile Bay. On October 6, 1832, Commodore Rodgers's flagship captured a French brig with 129 men on board near Pensacola Beach. The capture resulted in a standoff between Spanish and American forces at Mobile Bay which ended with Americans taking possession of Mobile Bay and its resources. On December 17th, 1832 Commodore Rodgers's flagship captured two Spanish ships off Pensacola Beach while they were being towed back to Havana by their respective vessels. This event marked America's first successful amphibious assault on Spanish soil since 1795 when General James Wilkinson led British troops land at Stonington Landing in Connecticut
