In the early 1900s, Sweetwater was a small farming town in central Florida. The coffee beans that we enjoy today were roasted here on the farms of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Watkins in 1918. Today, Mr. Watkins still provides fresh roasted coffee to customers at his business, The Coffee House, located in downtown Sweetwater. The first mention of coffee being roasted here comes from an article written by Dr. J.B Priestley in 1892 entitled "The History and Properties of Coffee." At that time, Sweetwater was only a small village with a handful of homes and businesses including the Methodist church and school which both used to roast their own coffee for use in their services as well as sell it to local farmers who supplied them with beans from various locations around the region (See Map 1). To date, Sweetwater has had the distinction of being home to the first coffee roasting company in Florida. That company was The Coffee Shoppe in 1907. It was a small shop with only 12 cups of coffee roasted at its peak. In 1912, The Coffee Shoppe moved to what is now known as Sweetwater City Hall and opened its doors to the public. From then until 1960, it served as the primary location for Keurig coffee machines in Florida. In that time period, The Coffee Shoppe also became one of the most well-known and influential cafes in town. Eventually, however, the business went out of business and was eventually bought by Don & Gayle Kipperbach in 1964. They continued to run it as a cafe until 1995 when it closed down for good. At that point, Sweetwater had finally become home to its own coffee roasting company!
Sweetwater is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Sweetwater were Indian settlers who arrived in 1824. A post office was established at Sweetwater in 1838, and remained in operation until 1959. Sweetwater was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1909. On February 20, 1912, the name of the town was changed to Sweetwater Lake after the nearby body of water. The first mayor of Sweetwater was J.P. Kiley In 1964, an oil well called Well No1 exploded and killed three residents near what is now known as Main Street in Sweetwater Park - this event became known as "the GreatOil Explosion." The disaster led to a public outcry against drilling for oil within Monroe County and helped spur efforts to ban fracking within Monroe County altogether by then-Governor Bobby Hensarling On October 11th 2000 a tornado touched down just east of sweetWater with winds up to 175 mph (300 km/h). One person died from injuries sustained during that tornado which marked one of the worst natural disasters in Central Florida history

Sweetwater was founded on May 3, 1871 by pioneers Daniel and Marilla Henshaw as a cattle and horse ranch. The town grew rapidly after it became the terminus of the Miami-Ocala Railroad. By 1914, Sweetwater had become an agricultural center with more than 100 businesses. In 1925, Sweetwater incorporated as a city under the name of Orlando. From its early days until World War II, Sweetwater was an important center for commerce and industry in central Florida; today its economy relies primarily on agriculture and tourism. Sweetwater, Florida is a small town in Wakulla County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. The first European to visit Sweetwater was Alonso de Urraca on October 12, 1565. He named it "Xavier" after Saint Xavier of Lesbos who had been martyred in that year. In 1821 Spanishman José María López founded a mission and store at what is now called Rancho Santa Clara de Sweetwater in present-day Wakulla County. In 1827, American Daniel Boone discovered and named the stream that runs through Sweetwater after him - Boones Creek. López's mission was abandoned by 1835 because of Indian attacks; however, a new one was established in 1847 by Father Francisco Javier Escobar y Rivera near what is now the town of Sweetwater. The Escobar Mission still stands today as part of Holy Cross Parish (Church District #2) in Wakulla County. In 1907 Commerce City became the first incorporated town in Wakulla County when it merged with neighboring Commerce into one municipality under then-County Commissioner James Fenton except for detached areas within the boundaries of each township which continued to be governed separately until 1938 when they were consolidated intoSweetwater Township under then-Commissioner Mabel Akeley. After several years of discussion over consolidation and opposition from some residents who felt their townships were being shortchanged financially due to this sharing of money among all three municipalities, commissioners voted 3–0 on November 6, 1941 to create sweetWater Municipality which included bothCommerce City and Sweetwater Township while still excluding detached areas within either townships which continued to be governed independently until 1938 when they were combined into sweetWater Township under then-Commissioner Mabel Akeley
