South Miami, Florida is known for its gourmet coffee. The city has been a center of coffee culture since the 1920s and continues to be a major player in the industry today. Today, South Miami's cafes offer unique and delicious cup of java experiences that are sure to please any palate. The history of South Miami's coffee begins with the arrival of Dutch traders in 1614. The first European settlers in what is now South Miami Beach encountered an area rich in cocoa trees, making it one of the most valuable areas on the island. Coffee was also grown here, but it wasn't until 1875 that Colombians started trading with South Miami Beach. With this new trade came new ideas about how to produce quality coffee beans and improve prices for buyers around the world. In 1902, two men from Panama City named Fernando and Jorge de la Rosa bought land near Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Biscayne Boulevard in what is now Overtown. They named their coffee plantation La Flora because of the flowers they saw during their travels in Panama City. It was here that Fernando started growing Arabica beans while Jorge roamed throughout his plantations looking for better yields and better pricing for his beans from Colombia. This early effort at gourmet coffee production helped give birth to what would become known as Colombian Gourmet Coffee reputation across the globe! By 1912, La Flora had become one of the largestcoffee producers on Broward County with an annual output totaling over 3 million pounds! By 1922, when Colombian Gourmet Coffee moved its operations back to SouthMiami Beach after years based out of Panama City, La Flora had ceased all production entirely! In 1925 however, rebel forces destroyed La Flora's entire crop due to a lack of water resources which limited available acreage for farming; thus ending Colombian Gourmet Coffee forever! However, this event only served to revitalize interest within Columbiaian-owned factories throughout Latin America who were seeking an opportunity to produce top-quality bean products domestically; startingThus began another era as Colombiana produced some truly iconic gourmet coffees such as Montecristo (now Patron) or Peet's Java (now Dunkin' Donuts). In fact even today many restaurants throughout Latin America still sources their Columbian Gourmet Coffee from these same factories!

There is a long and varied history of coffee, dating back to the ancient Egyptians. Coffee was first traded between Arabia and Ethiopia in the 4th century BC. The Arabs introduced coffee to Europe in the 12th century AD. The Dutch became interested in coffee in the late 16th century, and began importing beans from Java during this time. In 1795, Baron Jean Baptiste de la Gourde founded what is now French café Gratteaux near Paris. This led to the development of french-style cafes all over France.
South Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. South Miami was founded in 1899 as an agricultural community on Key Biscayne Bay by immigrant Germans and Dutchmen. The area now known as South Miami was first inhabited by Arawaks and their descendants who used the bay for fishing and hunting during the Prehistoric or Formative period (c. 10,000 BC to c. 1000 AD). By 900 AD, there were some 7 kilometer long (4 miles) of mangrove swamp coastline along which Spanish colonists established small villages called Culebra because of its abundant fruit trees and fresh water resources. One such village named Santiago de Cuba had a thatched roofed church built in 1555 with gold leafing still remaining today from that time period; it remains one of only two standing churches in Southwest Florida still standing from this era. In 1821 Spain ceded control over all of Cuba to United States after its successful war against French revolutionary forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte; this event also ended Spain’s last colonial rule over Cuba outside Havana City where sugar cane continued to be grown until 1898). After American independence was declared in 1776, many African slaves were brought over as indentured servants into what is now Miami-Dade County under British rule; these Africans became known as "Coconut Islanders". As early as 1815 Coconuts had been landing on Key BiscayneBay from Africa off Ponce de León's San Pedro Point east of present day Eighth Street & Washington Avenue - prior to this point all shipping traffic entering/exiting the mouth of Big Piney Creek went through Havana Harbor due to tight security measures then in place between Havana and Tampa Straits following news of Napoleon's Invasion of Spain! This increased traffic caused problems for both Cuban sailors working for Spanish owners on those vessels seeking passage back home (some $1 million per year lost each), plus native African fishermen hauling goods worth millions more downriver every season! In 1827 US Colored Troops were raised to enforce white supremacy via military suppression techniques against any form black racial slavery including transportation across international borders - henceforth known popularly simply as "The War on Terror" operations being conducted domestically against all forms slave trade!!! This effectively closed off much needed commercial access along I-95 corridor thru SW FL & made it difficult/impossible for blacks inland especially Palm Beach County (& Everglades region)Cross Keys Rd., Collier Rd., Marco Island
