Coast Guard gift history in Sebring, Florida began with the founding of the Coast Guard on May 14, 1915. The first marine unit to be activated by the Coast Guard was a detachment from Miami Beach. The Coast Guard grew rapidly and soon formed detachments throughout the state of Florida. By 1923, it had its own station at Fort Myers and a full-time command. In 1927, the Coast Guard purchased its firstAviation Division which provided air search and rescue services for coastal communities along the Gulf of Mexico. On November 11th, 1928, CGC "HMS Ocean" was transferred to Sebring as part of Military Unit No. 2 (the State Police). On October 1st 1930, both Naval Aviation Squadron VF-3 ("Plymouth") and Marine Aircraft Group 8 (Marine Reconnaissance Squadron VF-8) were activated at Sebring under Maritime Commission jurisdiction under First Lieutenant Hank Jervis who became Commandant on September 3rd 1932. The squadron operations were conducted out of Ybor City Air Park with PBYs until 1936 when they converted to Curtiss P-40’s. In 1938 AN/TPSQ-2(D) radar was added to Marine Aircraft Group 8A making it one of only two squadrons in America equipped with this type of equipment at that time In 1939 an addition to Marine Aircraft Group 8A was made when Patrol Squadron Two (VPB-5), organized at Pensacola Naval Air Station became operational flying Northrop N8Y4 Wildcats . VPB-5 operated out of NAS Pensacola until 1941 when they transitioned to Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft . 1957 saw completionof new tower construction adjacentto Ybor City Airport which allowed for increased aerial surveillance overSebring areaShowing off newly acquired F1G jet planes during 1958 Sebring International Racetrack race December 12th 1908 – December 18th 1909: A detachment from US Navy's Bureau Of Fisheries Regulations stationed at Key West arrived in order to provide law enforcement services on Key West Island following a series of thefts from local ships anchored offshore during hurricane season Captain John Smedley commanding detachment established petty police department which included armed guards duty night and day January 9th 1913: The US Customs Service Fleet Auxiliary arrived touching down at Jacksonville Municipal Airport after being chartered by Mayor John Hockaday in order to provide customs service ashore duringhurricane season while other vessels moored offshore were left unharassed April 10th 1913: After passage through Hurricane Irene by USS Constitution moored off Jacksonville Harbor; Commander Wm BurtlessUSN appointed Acting Commissioner for Revenue Department having previously been Deputy Commissioner for Customs Services 1912 - 1914: There is no record available file about this event

On Jan. 1, 1933, the Florida Coast Guard was created as a result of the passage of the National Defense Act. The purpose of the Coast Guard was to provide law enforcement and security on the state's coasts and waters. On Dec. 12, 1935, the first officers were sworn in at Fort Myers Beach. In 1954, Commander John L. Brooks became Commanding Officer for all Coast Guard Districts in Florida. In 1969, The Coastal Artillery Regiment was activated at Fort Myers Beach and assigned to support maritime operations along the Gulf of Mexico from Miami to Pensacola beach area. On July 15th 1990 saw activation of Naval Air Station Sebring as part of Atlantic FleetOperation Neptune's Spear which included Operation Neptune's Spear off South America
Sebring, Florida is a small town in central Florida that was founded in 1926. It is located on the Sebring River and has a population of around 25,000. The name “Segurri” means “safe place” in Spanish and refers to the town’s location on the banks of the Sebring River. The original settlers were farmers who left Spain because of the war. They arrived on horseback and by boat and built their first house on the edge of what is now town. In 1927, they moved to a more permanent building which still stands today. The first store opened in 1928 and soon after, a bank was started up as well. The town grew quickly and by 1933, it had its own school system as well as a post office. The Second World War changed everything for Sebring during those years. Many people left for military service or persecution in Europe but many others stayed to help build something new – a community that could support itself from within. After the war ended, things began to stabilize again but there were always some challenges at hand such as drugs being sold openly near schools or crime happening thanks to lack of security measures implemented during wartime times. However, over time, Sebrillians have come together to overcome these obstacles together and make their community even stronger than before

On 1 January 1939, the Coast Guard Reserve was redesignated as an agency within the Department of Transportation. The Sebring, Florida area has been populated for over a thousand years. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Sebring were the Mayans, who built a small village on the banks of the St Johns River in 1513. The area was named for Sir John Sebright, an Englishman who explored and claimed the land for England in 1819. The name "Sebring" comes from Spanish word "sorprendido," meaning "surprise." In 1819, Spain ceded all of Florida to Britain as part of a treaty that ended the Mexican War. British settlers began arriving in what is now Sebring in 1824. By 1830, there were over 100 families living in what is now Sebring. In 1836, Captain James Ketchum of USS Constitution led an expedition that located and mapped much of Florida. His map showed that Tampa Bay was present at this location and he named it after his ship. In 1840, construction began on the first commercial steamboat harbor on Tampa Bay. This harbor became known as Ketchum Harbor because ofCaptain Ketchum's contributions thereto. During Reconstruction Era (1868-1877), many businesses and citizensin Jacksonville migrated to Sebring during that time due to poor economic conditions back home in Jacksonville. Many new style homes were constructed during this time including Tudors and Gables which are still popular today in these parts of town . The early 20th century saw some growth with businesses opening up such as gas stations and grocery stores along with more professional buildings being erected such as hospitals and schools overnight In 1925, General Motors announced its plans to build a plant heretofore unplanned by GM until then – giving rise to speculation about future industry growth hereabouts It wasn't until 1948 when local businessman Jesse Hill developed an oil refinery adjacent to US-1 called Gulf Refinery which would finally bring substantial jobs into town starting right away During World War II (1939-1945), almost everything within walking distanceof Gulf Refinery either served DOD or was used for production; post office included! seldom does history repeat itself quite so favorably!
