Rockledge is a small town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,401 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Hollywood–Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by pioneers in 1881 and enlarged in 1903 when it became a component of Fort Myers and Lee County. The name comes from Robert Culp Rockledge, who purchased land there in 1881. A post office called Rockledge was established in 1883, and remained active until 1955. In 1971, the townsite of Fort Myers annexed Rockledge as part of itslargement and incorporation into the city of Fort Myers proper. In 2002, the City Council voted to annex all but one bedroom of Rockledge (to form an apartment complex) to create more housing for residents within the city limits; however, this annexation failed to take hold due to opposition from some residents in Rockledge who felt they were being left out of decision-making processes related to their community's annexation. According to the 2000 U.S Census Bureau estimates, 1% of all households in Monroe County are composed exclusively or almost exclusively of people identifying as Native American or Alaska Native; 5% are Latino; 8% are white non-Hispanic households; 2% are black household heads over 20 years old ; 3% are Asian household heads over 20 years old ; 0% are any other race household head(s). There is no significant indigenous population presence withinRockledge itself although many descendants do reside there through family relationships or cultural visits back home

The town was founded in 1892 by J.B. Waring and his wife, Fannie Bogan Waring. The name comes from aFS (fir tree) which stands near their farmstead on the corner of Old State Road 24 and US-1A. The first post office opened in 1897 and the first store was built in 1899 by C A Dye and his wife Emma Dye. In 1907, Rockledge had one school; it closed in 1961 due to financial difficulties brought about by World War II and changes in land ownership within Brevard County In 1947, Rockledge became home to Florida's first Ferris wheel when it opened at the nearby Lake Buena Vista amusement park as part of an expansion project for that amusement park. That same year saw the opening of a new shopping center called Park Place Shopping Center adjacent to the old High School buildings which still stand today with several businesses inside including Sears, JC Penney & Montgomery Ward In 1957, state Senator John McKay announced plans for a new shopping mall called DisneyQuest just outside of Rockledge on US-1A known then as "Eagle Point". This project never came to fruition but would later be renamed after Walt Disney himself when he purchased that property adjacent to Magic Kingdom Park The town has also seen success since 1990 when it hosted its own version of Saturday morning cartoons show Thunderbirds alongside other local shows like America's Test Kitchen (now Food Network), Who Do You Think You Are? (now History Channel) In 2003, thanks to an investment from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band drummer Roy Bittan who owned a large piece of land next to town limits lay down for development - what would become known as SpringsteenLand - rockledge saw another growth spurt with lots of new businesses added along with increased access to mass transportation such as horses & cars pulled by dogsleds during events like NASCAR races or county fairs
The town of Rockledge, Florida was founded in 1892 by George Stephenson. The community grew rapidly due to its location on a clifftop and its natural resources. By 1908, the population had increased to over 1,000 people. In 1916, Rockledge became an incorporated municipality. The town prospered until the early 1920s when World War I began and the demand for military goods led to a decrease in production at local businesses. In 1929, Rockledge lost its charter as an incorporated municipality and reverted back to being a unincorporated community with a population of around 350 people. However, during the 1930s the town experienced significant growth thanks to new commercial development and improved infrastructure such as water systems and schools. During World War II, Rockledge was one of several towns in Florida that received munitions shipments from ammunition plants in Illinois. This led to increased production at local businesses and continued prosperity until the war ended in 1945. After the war,Rockledge experienced some decline due to demographic changes and a lack of economic opportunities. However, since 2000 it has seen renewed growth thanks to tourism ventures and new residential development along its coastlines
