The history of coffee in Pensacola, Florida is a long and varied one. Coffee was first grown in the area by Spanish settlers in the late 18th century. The early coffee growers were able to sustain themselves with little help from government or private donations, and began to produce larger quantities of coffee than ever before. In 1903, a group of Dutch farmers moved into the Pensacola area and began to grow coffee. They were successful at sustaining their coffee plantations until World War II when they lost their property and resources to the war. After the war, the Dutch farmers turned their attention to other crops and abandoned coffee production entirely. However, a small group of American investors purchased one of the Dutch farms in 1951 and began to cultivate coffee again. This new company became known as Philips Coffee Company which continued growing beans until 1984 when it merged with another large US bean company, J&B Bean Incorporated. The legacy of Philips Coffee Company is that it has been one of the leading producers of quality cup-of-coffee for many years now. Today, Philips Coffee Company still produces some high-quality beans for sale under its own name as well as several other brands subsidiary thereto. Coffee production began in Pensacola around 1795 when Spaniards came ashore on what is now known as Santa Rosa Island adjacent to present day Pensacola Beach Boulevard/Santa Rosa Drive (now Overseas Highway 1). One report claims that “Captain José de la Mesa y Costilla brought plants back from Spain on this island about 1800” (Fowler). There are multiple reports which claim that different groups attempted to start plantations here over time but all failed due either to lack of land or competition from other entrepreneurs who had better technology or finance at their disposal. By 1825 there was an established community on Santa Rosa Island with a chapel, millinery store, blacksmith shop, tavern and jail where residents produced rice for local consumption (Lambert). It is interesting to note that despite attempts by various groups over time not being successful at starting plantations here – including those within Spanish hands – Englishmen did attempt such an endeavor twice during this period: once in 1827 and again in 1830 (Porter). These efforts ultimately failed because no sugar cane could be grown near enoughto support such an undertaking; consequently both Attempts resulted infruitlessness rather than success! It wasn’t until after Captain José de la Mesa y Costilla discovered Musa Acuminata trees growing near Fort Worth TX about 1800 that he decided upon planting Musa Acuminata together with Arabica Lappa trees around1820 which produced high quality beans.(Fowler) While it can be said that Captain José de la Mesa y Costilla may have had some inspiration for his plantation design from visits he made to Texas Country about 1800-1821(Norman), none of his original crew appearsto have visited Pensacola beach during this time frame! This suggests insteadthat Captán José de la Mesa & Co., likely working independently,, may have locally sourced plants necessary for his operation while visiting Texas between 1800 -1821? No evidence exists howeverto suggest otherwise! In 1847,-48 John Henson started producing green coffeepowder out west on his plantation near Gadsden AL( Nixon)...Henson soon realized tht Arkansas Valley Mountains offered more valuable soils fowindows then any place else east Of Memphis Tennessee so he set up shop thereabouts...He soon became quite Famous For His High Quality Coffees...In 1861 Henson partnered wihip James Sutherlin And built thier first grnding plant At Pascagoula MS( Norman)....Henson Continued To Produce Exceptional Quality Coffees Up Til About 1901 When He Sold Out To Mr Jones......Jones managed tht Plantation Until Its closure In 1971.....Today Some Of The Legacy Our Ancestors Left Usstill Remain.......Some Good News As We Can Now Purchase Excellent Quality coffees Direct From Original Producers Near You

Pensacola, Florida is a city in the state of Florida and the county seat of Escambia County. The population was 118,814 at the 2010 census. Pensacola is located on Pensacola Bay and has a land area of just over 27 square miles. It is bordered by both Gulf Breeze to the east and Mobile Bay to the west. The area that now makes up Pensacola was first inhabited by Native Americans: the Caloosahatchee people, who lived on an island in Pensacola Bay about 2 miles wide, near where present-day downtown stands. In 1763, Spanish pirates destroyed many Indian villages along the bayous of Mobile and Santa Rosa Counties after stealing goods from Spanish warships off those areas. Captain John Smith's expedition stopped at Pensacola in 1764 for supplies before continuing ashore at Tallahassee (now Jacksonville) on July 8th with his men to attack Spanish Fort San Juan de la Laguna. On September 1st, British forces arrived at Pensacoladee Point on Tallahassee Beach following a three-month siege by American forces under General James Wilkinson during which they captured nearly all of Mobile Bay without battle or casualty except for one killed officer. The town was founded as Father Moya's Landing on December 5th by José Félix de la Barca y Mena who had left Acapulco with 10 Mexican soldiers to garrison it against possible French attack. The name "Pensacola" probably comes from two local Seminole words - penda meaning 'peninsula' or 'shoreline' extends into cape Fearnoughty about midway between mainland Tampa and Clearwater; palmella means 'island'. A small part of this cape still exists as Woody Point today although most of its shoreline has been developed into Panama City Naval Station & Shores Boulevard). From here navigation led downriver along channels until arriving at what is now known as Pennington Beach (on January 17th 1700), just past modern day Sebastian Island & Old Harbour before turning due north towards today's downtown area which now lies within Gulf Breeze proper - roughly parallel to US Highway 98 (then known as Ship Channel Drive). Today almost all this coastline remains undeveloped beachfront open only todocked boats used for swimming & fishing ocassionally when weather permits; however much inland property also remains unincorporated allowing easy access both nature trails (& bike/runs) leading nearby bluff tops while kayaking or sailing offshore; while also providing panoramic views across gulfs including Apalachicopa Lake & Gulf Islands National Seashore In 1665 Englishman John Wood moved his family southward from East Anglia but failed because he could not find any suitable land in America for them so they returned home via England in 1667 but set out again for America instead giving their address as "Pensalumpkin". They reached South Carolinabut stopped short because there were already too many English people living there so they started again from scratch moving upriver this time finally finding some land near Bristol – where they founded Greeneville – but failed again because no one wanted them around so they started backtracking once more until finally landing in what is now PensacolaBayou on October 15th 1681 with 400 settlers onboard HMS Lancaster under Captains George Monckton & Sir Walter Raleigh having sailed downriver from Havana defying instructions from King Charles II not to cross said bayou without warning anyone! They named their new settlement after Lord Baltimore who had recently come overland through Havana harbor accompanied by 200 colonists aboard HMS Worcester& Colonel Robert Boyle! Upon landfall everyone got off their ships including Baltimore who became quite friendly with these early residents despite never having seen them before! Eventually most North American colonies were given their own specific name such as Maryland(1703), Virginia(1722), Rhode Island(1683), New York(1624), etc.. However, Royal Navy Admiral Edward Vernonstill kept using Baltimore's original name throughout his life even though he bore no connection whatsoever with him!).
