The Coast Guard has been in Miami Shores, Florida for over 100 years. The first Coast Guard station was established here in 1903. It was the Miami Beach Station and it served as a lookout for ships that were entering or leaving on the bay. In 1923, the Coast Guard moved to its current location in this location and it became known as Station Miami Shores. In 1941, the Coast Guard merged with the military and became part of the United States Marine Corps. This gave the Coast Guard jurisdiction over all waters within shouting distance of shoreline in South Florida. In 1966, Miami Shores became operational as a unit of First District HeadquartersMiami-Dade County which is headquartered at Port Everglades Marina East. In 2002, The First District Headquarters relocated to Miamiville Beach where it currently functions as an Operations Divisional Office responsible for all aspects of Maritime Law Enforcement including Patrol Services alongshore and offshore assets; Investigations; Homeland Security; Customs & Border Protection; Emergency Management; Streetscape Management It is also home to one of two helicopter pad complexes used by local law enforcement agencies (the other being located at Homestead Air Force Base). The Museum of Aviation History houses artifacts from both American Airlines Flight 818 which crashed into downtown MiamiShores on September 12th 1947 and Pan American World Airways flight 103 which crashed into Biscayne Bay near Key West on December 21st 1945 both resulting in deaths among passengers and crew members

They were Methodists who named their community "Shoreside." In 1881, the name was changed to "Miami" after American Commodore Hernando De Soto's landing on Biscayne Bay. The town had a post office from 1886 until 1927. In 1962, parts of Miami Shores were annexed into nearby Plantation Gardens; however, it remains a separate municipality today with its own government and school district.

The Coast Guard is a law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security and its mission is to protect maritime interests in the Atlantic, Pacific and Caribbean oceans. Along with other agencies within DHS, the Coast Guard also has responsibilities for homeland security and border protection. The history of Coast Guard gift giving began during World War I when sailors from USS Constitution donated supplies to help the war effort. In 1942, Congress passed an act that established the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as an independent peacetime government body with its own budget and authority to make purchases without congressional approval. This gave NASA a monopoly on space gifts and products. Over time, Navy ships have been used as donation centers for both military items and everyday items such as tools, clothing, food parcels, cigarettes and cigars. Today’s Coast Guard gift giving tradition began in 1978 when Commodore John McCarthy allowed his USCGC Canberra (CGS-5) to be donated to the agency. The Canberra was named after Commodore John McCarthy who was killed in action aboard USS Lexington (CV-2) during World War II. Since then, every Australian port has received a gift from the USCGC Canberra including Perth (2007), Adelaide (2010), Brisbane (2012), Hobart (2015) and Darwin (2018). Miami Shores is a neighborhood in Miami, Florida. It was developed in the early 1800s as part of the Fort Lauderdale area and has been continuously inhabited since then. The name "Shores" comes from its being at the mouth of an alluvial stream that flows into Biscayne Bay. The community was originally called "Cape Coral," but this name was changed to Miami Shores because it was thought to be more appropriate for a community located on the coast of Biscayne Bay. The first residents of Miami Shores were Native American traders who used the area as a trading post between their tribe and those living in South Florida. By 1838, however, most of what is now Miami Shores had been settled by white settlers. This group included several entrepreneurs who began to develop what are now some of Miami's most famous neighborhoods- including Wynwood, Midtown, and Overtown- while also helping to create much of modern Miami's infrastructure such as Marlins Park and Hollywood Walk Of Fame Boulevard.
Miami Shores was a small community on the Gulf of Mexico, about 20 miles northwest of Miami. The community was founded by Cuban immigrants in the early 1920s as part of a migration to escape the Spanish Inquisition. It became an agricultural center with cattle and hogs production, and later developed into a shipping and industrial center.
