The shop became a popular spot for buying and selling firearms, as well as finding new and used firearms. In 1868, J.W. Dixon opened his own gunshop on Third Street in Lynn Haven. Dixon was a pioneer in the sale and purchase of rifles and shotguns, as well as handguns. He also developed a reputation for being an expert onFN Model 1911 pistols. In 1903, Fenton & Sons purchased Dixon's store and continued to operate it until 1967 when it closed its doors permanently due to economic conditions. The History of Lynn Haven Gun Gifting begins with the purchase of a shotgun in 1907 by local farmer, George A. Herring. The shotgun was used for hunting small game and was later passed down to his son, George P. Herring Jr. who kept it until it was donated to the city of Lynn Haven in 1961. In 1961, the city of Lynn Haven decided that it would be more beneficial to use the shotguns as part of its law enforcement arsenal and so they acquired them from the Herrings. The guns have been stored ever since within the city limits and are currently on display at City Hall located inside the Police Department building.

Lynn Haven is located on Lake Tohopoka and it has a ZIP code of 32609. The Town of Lynn Haven was founded in 1907 by John Larkin and his wife Emma. The Larkins had previously come to America from Ireland in 1847 and were among the earliest settlers in Sanford, Florida. In 1907, they donated land for a public school and built their house as the first schoolhouse in Lynn Haven Township. They also donated $5 for each household to be used for school supplies. In 1925, the town became known as "Haven" after its founder's family home on Blue Jay Lane (now U Street). As the name suggests, Cove Springs filled up with vacationers during World War II so much so that Haven had to build more than one road into its boundaries to accommodate all these people. Today there are only a few remain from when Haven was an open-air community with streets named after local plants or animals: Conroe Road near Cove Creek; Garnet Road near Gables Park; Emerald Way near Emerald Beach Resort; and Pineapple Lane near Pineapple Point Marina Shop & Restaurant). In the early 1800s, Lynn Haven was a small farming community in south-central Florida. The area now known as Lynn Haven was first settled by English colonists in 1763 following the British purchase of Florida from Spain. The town was founded on the banks of the St. Johns River, and quickly became a important trading center for salt and other goods arriving from North America. In 1815, the United States acquired Florida from Spain, and Lynn Haven accordingly fell within American territory. By 1821, however, Lynnhaven had grown to become one of the most populous areas in south-central Florida. In that year, it also became part of the newly formed Seminole Nation after their victory in a bloody war against Spanish forces. Over time, Lyn Haven experienced rapid growth and development; by 1840 it had become an incorporated municipality with a population of over 775 people. During its heyday as a manufacturing and commercial center, Lynn Haven also attracted many talented individuals who helped create some ofFlorida's most famous landmarks and achievements: such as inventor Thomas Edison (who developed his own lightbulb invention there), engineer Andrew Mellon (founder of Mellon Bank), and architect Cass Gilbert (the developer of Tampa Bay).
