Lynn Haven is a small town in Florida. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico, about 25 miles southeast of Pensacola. The population was 2,491 at the 2010 census. Lynn Haven was founded in 1892 by A.J. Havens and J.F. Hennessey as a small fishing village on the edge of a salt marsh known as “The Inlet” Today, Lynn Haven is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Florida and has an active economy based largely on its seafood industry which employs over 100 people. The town began to take form after Captain John Sutter discovered oil reserves off the coast of Pensacola in 1879. In 1978, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of what remains of Lynn Haven including both the courthouse and library; however, much reconstruction took place thereafter with help from federal funding through Title IX Of The Education Amendments Of 1972 which helped spur development along Gulf Highway which bisects Lynn Haven Center today.
