Longwood is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,633 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St Augustine Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Longwood were three families who arrived on horseback from Georgia in 1824. They named their new county after Chief Whiteoak of Choctaw Nation, which they hoped would show European visitors that they were not alone in their ambitions to extend westward into what was then Indian Territory. The original town site was within current-day Orange Park and there are several contributing buildings still extant today: the old courthouse (now used as a library), the Presbyterian church (also known as First Baptist Church), schoolhouse No. 1, and schoolhouse No. 2; along with a few outbuildings such as an old blacksmith shop and store house nearby on Uptown Road near present day Interstate 10 and US 27/US 3015A / US 939B / FM 478D / US 41A / LANE 376B / Plantation Road now called Dogpatch Drive. In 1849, another group of pioneers arrived from Georgia by wagon train and named their new community after John Quincy Adams – afterwards the sixth president of the United States – because he had been one of the drivers for President James K. Polk during his successful 1850 campaign for office against Andrew Johnson. After years of growth and development due to railroad transportation, farming, business opportunities attracted more people to Longwood in 1925 when it became an incorporated municipality under state law from Walton County following a referendum vote by its citizens; concurrently neighboring Orange Park became unincorporated Pinellas County territory through similar legislation passed by both counties’ legislatures concurrent with Longwood incorporation proceedings). In 1957, portions of Pinellas County annexed parts of Broward County making Longwood officially part of BrowardCounty; however most residents continued to identify themselves asLongwoodians regardless of jurisdictional affiliation until 2003 when annexation proceedings were initiated once again within PolkCheckerland Township effective January 1st., 2004 pursuant to state statutes et al.; resulting in re-establishment or reinstatement (or reintroduction) ol’ local government services & powers including taxation without representation thereby enjoying full legal autonomy therein notwithstanding any prior resolutions or approvals thereof by either city or county legislative bodies theretofore duly authorized thereto notwithstanding any contrary declarations herein contained relative to said jurisdiction specifically express or impliedly appearing hereinbefore set forth “?

Longwood is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,039 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fort Walton Beach–Myakka City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Longwood was Captain James Cook on his third voyage around the world in 1770. He anchored off the coast of Longwood on October 16, 1770 and made landfall near present-day Pensacola Bay. Captain Cook's second landfall in what is now Florida was also near present day Longwood; he named it "Master Key" after himself and landed there on November 8th, 1770 while exploring Lake Okeechobee. On November 9th,1770, Captain Cook sailed by again but this time he named the harbor "Fort Canute" after King George II of Great Britain who granted him land at that location for his ship HMS Constitution which had arrived in Charleston Harbor two days earlier from England with Admiral John Hawkins' squadron transporting supplies for the British war effort against France. This landing marking the beginning of permanent European settlement east of Tampa took place about three miles south of what is now Longwood's downtown square (named Square One), which still stands today and is home to several businesses including Bicknells Florist Shop & Gift Gallery and Andy's BBQ & Rib House. In 1818 Governor Andrew Jackson signed an act into law creating Polk County out of what were then Seminole County and within that act laid out a grid pattern for future villages across Polk County with significant areas coming under Fort Mackenzie (later known as Tallahassee) as their center point; one such village being Longwood located just north of where it currently stands on Highway 98 between US 192nd Street/State Road 84 and SR 84 near Interstate 10 exit 133A). The boundaries for both Polk County proper and Fort Mackenzie were finalized by Act No 07-15 from February 14 - March 3rd 1827; thus finally putting an end to Choctaw Nation territory west along US 30 between Tallahassee/SR 84 and SR 311 south to Econo Lodge Rd./SR 87 southeast to current day I-10Exit 133B just south of longitude due east longitude line established by Treaty Of Nice dated December 12th 1800! With its well-preserved historical sites dating back more than 200 years – many contributing directly or indirectly to development during that time – Longwood has become an important destination not only for visitors looking to see some locally significance but also local residents who appreciate its history all too often forgotten or simply unknown outside its tiny community!
