The USS Lexington (CV-2) was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named in honor of the battleship HMS Southampton. The Lexington was ordered on 26 October 1942, and commissioned on 3 December 1942. The Lexington departed Hampton Roads, Virginia, on 10 January 1943, and arrived at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on 15 January. She participated in the Battle of Coral Sea and lost her lower turret. On 28 May 1943 she fought off a Japanese surface attack with five torpedoes before being sunk by both guns and gunfire from the carrier Yorktown (CV-5).

Now open to both visitors and locals alike it features a lagoon filled with children's activities including fishing/boating/kayaking/canoeing; tennis; basketball; golf; dance studios; a playground complete with swings, slides and climbing walls This unique resource has been used by locals since day one when thousands of American servicemen stationed nearby returned home after several months deployed during World War II In fact , according to popular lore , approximately 1 out every 4 soldiers returning from overseas duty stopped by "The Park" during their stay before heading back into combat again soon afterwards! In 1964…the then CEO & President WL Marriott donated nearly half a million dollars towards construction of what would eventually become CNN TV Studio #1 followed by NHK TV Studio #2 .....and finally Today’sCNN Media Center !! His generosity continues throughout our community through myriad donations like this which helps support local businesses while providing much needed housing Clinics have sprung up across town offering mental health screenings /tests etc.,in additionto primary care services such as OBGYN residency slots available year round!!! In 1933, The Miami Herald reported that "the Money Man" had invested "$50,000 in five acres hereabouts". That year also saw the opening of another resort; The Dolphin Beach Club which featured an oceanfront swimming pool, tennis courts, a golf course, a movie theater (First Coral Reef), and several restaurants including LaBarba's Italian restaurant. By 1937 Key Biscayne had become one of South Florida's leading vacation spots with more than 2 million tourists visiting every season. In 1938 hurricane Donna struck mainland Florida leaving extensive damage along the Atlantic coast but no impact on KeyBISCAYNE - though some minor flooding occurred due to high tides caused by Irma that week In 1941 construction began on what would become downtown Miami - at then-known Ascot Boulevard between First Avenue North and Flagler Street - giving life to what would eventually become one of South Florida’s most vibrant neighborhoods In 1948 Keyshine Place Shopping Center opened adjacent to Ascot Boulevard with over 100 stores including Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney, Macy’s Inc., Nordstrom Department Stores chain as well as 5 cinemas including Regal Riviera Theatre while Wynn Resorts received its charter from Mayor Manuel López de la Torre to develop keybiscayne into an international luxury resort town . At its peak keybiscayne boasted over 2 million residents making it one of South Floridas largest cities before2001 when significant redevelopment began transforming it into an upscale enclave within DowntownMiami
