Jacksonville Beach is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 23,613 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Pasco Combined Statistical Area. The name "Jacksonville" comes from Spanish and means "place where the Jaguar lives". The first Europeans to visit Jacksonville Beach were Indian traders and explorers who traveled along the Gulf Coast in search of trade goods with the Native Americans. In 1810, General Andrew Jackson's army invaded Florida and arrived at Jacksonville on November 15th, 1810 after advanced scouts had reported seeing land to the northwest that could be used as an encampment for future military campaigns in that region. In 1840, Daniel Webster became U.S. Attorney General and James Kenedy became Mayor of Jacksonville before being elected as Governor ofFlorida in 1846; he resigned due to term limits set by Congress which he opposed). 4 years later on January 3rd, 1850 Jacksonville was annexed by Duval County when it was created from parts of Flagler and St Johns counties. The annexation made Jacksonville one ofDuval County's largest cities with a population over 10,000 people for only its first few years! In 1860, Booker T Washington moved his family from Tuskegee Institute (near Atlanta) to Jacksonville Beach so they could start their own school busing program which soon grew into one of America's most successful programs ever! After many struggles but some great success including founding several hospitals and serving as mayor himself (1927-1930), Washington died suddenly at age 63 while holidaying in Key Largo on October 14th just weeks after taking office following a campaign promise to make city services more affordable for all citizens! After his death there was much speculation about what would happen next since politics often determines such things! A year later on December 1st 1930 Dr Julius Rosenwald purchased City Hall from Mr Wm C Cain for $5,000 cash only months after giving up control over Tuskegee Institute'sNegro education system!) Rosenwald ran unsuccessfully for Mayor against Harry Byrd in 1932 but shortly afterwards founded Phillips Academy (now Yale University) originally intended as a preparatory school specifically for Negro students although it eventually admitted white students too!). Although now considered an Ivy League School softball powerhouse (and home field advantage during NCAA championships), Phillips never lost its focus on preparing black young men for success – today it continues to educate approximately 400% more African American than any other school within Duval County!! After World War II ended there continued strong economic growth thanks largely to offshore oil drilling off shore especially around Port Canaveral making this area one of North America’s leading tourist destinations – indeed even becoming known as “The Most Beautiful Place On Earth” according to Forbes magazine back in the 1920s)! Today much like downtown Jacksonville itself there are numerous businesses and restaurants occupying every nook and cranny making this area well worth visiting whether you're looking for sunbathing or shopping…or both!

Jacksonville Beach is a city located on the Gulf of Mexico, in Jacksonville County, Florida. The population was 178,362 at the 2010 census. Jacksonville Beach has been a major seaport for over 100 years and is home to many cultural attractions such as the Jacksonville Museum of Art and Jacksonville Landing. The first human settlement in what is now Jacksonville Beach was made in 1821 by Captain John Stroud and his squadron of HMS "Victory" sailors after they explored and mapped the area. In 1824, pioneers James Troup and Isaac Watts founded a ferryboat service between Clearwater Bayou (now downtown) on Tampa's east side and Jacksons Landing on Jupiter's Key. This allowed people from inland areas access to salt water through this area which was then known as "the Entrance". In 1868, General Andrew Jackson signed the Law of March 17 that designated land within present-day Jacksonville Beach as part of newly created Lake County. This enabled developers to begin building homes in what would become known as "The Beaches". By 1870, all but one block of beach had been developed, with wharves being built to accommodate shipping coming into or leaving the harbor. The only stop for ships was Jupiter Key where passengers could disembark for short trips or longer voyages upriver to St Petersburg or Mobile. In 1888, Publick Works became operational along First Street south of present-day Neptune Avenue when it became an important port for naval supplies entering and exitingJacksonville Harbor. It served until 1912 when the Navy decommissioned its vessels there making Portsmouth Roads an even more important commercial center during World War I because it remained open 24/7 while warships were docked at Jaxport Naval Shipyard! These days you can still find examples of early 20th century maritime architecture including pilothouse style warehouses dating back to 1889 at Publick Works which still stands today! On November 10th 1899 saw Hurricane Flora make landfall near Cape Canaveral just off Hawkins Point Road immediately north of town beach! A massive waves crashing onto shore caused extensive damage resulting in loss of life both ashore (estimated dead range 5 – 10) and offshore (estimated severe waves up to 30 feet!). With winds speeds over 115 mph most homes sustained very little damage however some did suffer significant property damage with Roofs blown off prominent businesses like Woolworth’s Store & Bakery ad highest rise structures like Dunlap Insurance Building completely destroyed!. As hurricane winds pulled out deeper into Cuba Peninsula they began increasingly damaging extreme coastlines well beyond visible shoreline; finally reaching Sebastian Inlet three miles wide open ocean front without protection any time after landfall!, devastation total loss exceeds $2 million !! Today much like then Jacksonville Beach experienced intense waves everyday from high season tourist influxes plus daily storm surges due mainly to wind shear events making it difficult if not impossible for locals (& first responders!) access tides & sea levels so essential for coastal communities!!! What started as local seaside commerce quickly turned intoPDX 2A becoming perhaps globally largest undeveloped tidal estuary???
