Eustis, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. The name of the town comes from its location on Eustis Inlet and Eustis Key near Naples,Florida The first Europeans to visit Eustis were Spanish explorers who named it La Esperanza after their saint's cultivation area in Spain. A post office called Eustis was established in 1851, and remained so until 1959. At the time of its establishment, Eustis consisted of only four homes and twelve acres (6 ha). The towns growth began during the early 20th century when citrus farming became an important industry in Polk County. During World War II, local farmers supplied food for military camps throughout the war zone; one such camp was Camp Bearden in nearby Winter Haven Eustis has experienced significant growth over the years due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas as well as its key role within Polk County government. Today, the town has over 2,000 residents and contains a variety of businesses and services that contribute to its economic stability. These include two hospitals – St John's Medical Center and Orlando Regional Medical Center – two universities - USF (University of South Florida) and Santa Fe University - as well as three shopping malls: Walmart Supercenter, Sears Holdings Corporation stores supplemented by JCPenney anchor store; Gough’s Mercantile Company had a large presence until 2003; now part of Macy’s Incorporated department store chain As one of America’s fastest-growing communities for high-tech jobs seekers since 2000*, aspects like free internet access* through Comcast cable service*, professional parks with basketball courts*, bike paths* and more have kept residents engaged during this period Today there are many new companies moving into or expanding in Eustis including technology startups such as Blue Origin LLC* which moved into a $250 million office park adjacent to Walmart Supercenter just before 2017; dining options like Pritchard’s Fine Dining restaurant which opened up next door to Sam’s Club** also helped drive recent growth; while big box retailers such Toys “R” Us** closed their doors all across central Florida soon after they announced plans to move out of state*** *Blue Origin LLC - founded by Jeff Bezos - relocated their headquarters from Washington D C to Eubank Airport outside Jacksonville FL **Pritchard's Fine Dining restaurant - opened up next door to Sam's Club ***Toys "R" Us closed their doors all across central Florida soon after they announced plans to move out of state

The first settler in Eustis was George Fox who built a cabin on the banks of the Escambia River in 1827. By 1835, Eustis had become a tiny community with only 30 residents. The town's growth began in earnest after sugarcane became available for farming near by. In 1868, Eustis became one of three towns in Bay County to be designated as counties seat. This designation made it easier for businesses and citizens to get services such as law enforcement and education from county officials. In 1906, Eustis annexed portions of surrounding Collier County. As a result, Eustis became one of Seminole County's most populous communities. The influx of people led to significant economic development and helped make Eustis an increasingly popular tourist destination throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In recent years, however, some residents have voiced concerns about aspects of local government including high rates for real estate transactions and city-led initiatives that are not always consonant with traditional values within the community. Despite these challenges, Eustis has continued to thrive as a vibrant community that offers many opportunities for cultural experiences and outdoor activities
