Eustis, Florida is a small town located in Panhandle County, Florida. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. Eustis is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Eustis were Native American and nearby Seminole tribes who hunted and collected shellfish off the coast of Florida. The area was first called "Mocama" by the Seminoles before it became known as Eustis. The town site was chosen because of its proximity to salt water springs which provided drinking water for local settlers and sailors. In 1887, Caperton & Sayers built the Cypress House on land that they had bought from the tribe for $1 per acre (the price at which they landed). This house served as a barracks for local county officers during World War II. It still stands today, but has been converted into a bed and breakfast hotel called Cypress Springs Resort & Spa. In 1861, Jno Purdy purchased 2 square miles (4 km²) of land from Captain John Moseley for $10 per acre (the price at which he landed). This property included present-day Eustis proper and much of what is nowPanhandle County. He named his new community after Sir Joshua Reynolds who lived near Pensacola at the time. Purdy's farmlands developed into what are now Panhandle County roads such as US-277, SR 892, CR 3506A and CR 5472B; today these properties provide much of the waterfront development within Eustis limits dating back to early 20th century when commercial fishing boomed in Gulf Islands waters off Mobile Bay due to overfishing by Spanish Fishermen! In 1907 Governor Clements issued an Executive Order establishing Pinellas County with boundaries that coincided with those currently defined as panhandling districts east of US-27/SR 904/CR 3758A – boundary changes following annexation by Gadsden County on February 14th 1906 under then Governor Lawton Chiles! When Congress reincorporated Panhandle Counties on January 1st 1907 pursuant to Act No 1117 – all counties within that newly created county had their original boundaries except Pinellas where eastward expansion took place along current US-27 corridor! EUSTIS began developing rapidly due to its location next door to FT BAY LIGHTNING FALLS State Park just across SR 892 from downtown; this park offers beautiful views both day and night!! A second attraction quickly ensued – citrus fruit production commenced immediately adjacent SW OF THE PARK on large tracts owned by Mr Wm Forbush!!! In 1922 Dr Luther Saucier opened WHAT NOW IS KNOWN AS THE HOSPITAL IN SEPTEMBER 1923! Today’s facility provides care for both locals AND visitors alike….. Prior To 1929 there WASN’T A CLOSER BARN TO DOWNTOWN THAN WHERE I LIVE NOW…..Today we know “The Waterfront District” started out simply as: Bar Harbor Rd…….. By 1930 there were several bars/restaurants along Waterfront Blvd… TODAY WE KNOW THAT IT WAS CALLED: STRONGFORD ROAD…. By 1935 there were several hotels including The Palmer House Hotel & Casino…. Today we know it AS THE JACKSONVILLE MARATHON HOTEL!!!! Many other businesses followed suit over time including many banks; one particular bank that remain prominent until this day is First National Bank which stood right next door TO THE PARKING LOT FOR OVER 50 YEARS until it moved out circa 1990 ! As far as transportation goes; via train or bus one can get into Jacksonville or Gainesville just west of town while US 27 continues north past downtown providing easy access to Panama City Beach or Gulfport AFB etc.; also available are boat ramps leading directly out onto Gulfstream Channel…… locals enjoy fishing here year round!! Now if you want some action maybe try some golfing – Gulfstream Golf Club has 7 holes spread over 3 different courses….. Dutch sailors discovered Java in 1513 and started trading with the locals, who had already developed an elaborate brewing process for sweet Arabic tea. By 1600, Dutch ships had begun sailing to India to purchase spices and other goods, which led to more trade with Indonesia and Arabia. In 1624, Turkish traders reached India with slaves when they sailed from Mecca via Java – this led to another slave trade along our East-West corridor. Coffee began to be traded as currency in this period; one tael ( roughly $2) = 20 kg of ground or roasted beans at that time. The Dutch were not the only ones interested in caffeine; Portuguese traders also began importing Indonesian slaves because they could find no other source of supply for their rich pepperbush resources. By 1700, Starbucks was founded as a small business selling fresh roast coffeebeans on college campuses across America. At that time, it cost about $0.50 per cup to get your hands on quality Arabica beans! A few decades later roasting became cheaper but still expensive due largely to two factors:1) steady demand from industrial countries like North America where most of the world's regular consumers were located; 2) production costs associated with speciality coffees such as high altitude Ethiopian AAO beans which require higher temperatures than lower grade Arabica beans for uniform moisture uptake ( resulting in "roasted" flavors having a longer shelf life ). In recent years those production costs have come down significantly although still above average global prices so fresh roasted Arabica is now definitely more affordable than ever before

Eustis is a small town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico and lies just north of Fort Walton Beach on Florida's east coast. Eustis is historically known for its citrus production and for being home to the first permanent citrus industry in America. The first Europeans to visit Eustis were Spanish explorers in 1513 who named it "Isla de la Paloma" (Island of the Palm). The name may come from an Indian word meaning "marsh". A group of Englishman sailing under Admiral John Hawkins discovered the island in 1609 while exploring the southeastern flank of Cuba. They named it Hispaniola after Juan Ponce de León, captain of their ship La Niña. Eustis residents began cultivating citrus fruit in 1825 when they imported two Frenchmen with experience in growing oranges and lime trees from Haiti. By 1830, the Eustis Orange Company had been established with a nursery where new trees were grown year-round. In 1839, developer Fenton Caddo purchased land northeast of town for $2 per acre; this became downtown Eustis today. In 1850 Governor James K., Polk authorized construction of a state prison at Eglin AFB which led to increased production by local farmers as inmates were needed for labor during World War II and postwar expansion into what is now Citrus County. After passage of the Civil Rights Actof 1964 via congressional action, African American residents first started moving into downtown Eustis beginning in 1965 when Congress renovated housing developments adjacent to Eglin AFB which then became predominately black neighborhoods called Midtown and Uptown/East End respectively. Downtown business districts have since arisen around State Capitol Park/Georgia Avenue NW & NW Third Street NE - these areas are also home to major cultural attractions such as the performing arts center (the JacksonvilleBeach Museum), historical buildings like old courthouse #3 on NW Second Street NE (which housed both state government until 1922 and earlier county offices), archaeological sites like Negro Point National Monument near US 31st parallel south (northwest corner) and numerous restaurants providing African American-cultural services including Head Start programs for young childreninderstwhile their parents go about their daily lives elsewhere within city limits
Eustis was founded in 1836 by John P. Eustis and his wife, Martha B. Eustis. The town grew rapidly during the Second Seminole War and post-Civil War period as cotton production increased in the area. In 1919, Eustis became a city after being chartered by the Florida Legislature.
