Daytona Beach is a town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Daytona Beach metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Daytona Beach were French traders in 1668 and 1669. A Spanish trading post was established on what is now Government Street in 1763 and became known as "La Colorada" (The White Flag). In 1837, the name was changed to "Daytona" after Daniel Webster who had represented New England in the U.S. Senate from that state during President James K. Polk's term of office (1837-41). In 1905, a land grant of .25 acres (0 hectare) was made to Henry Kendall by Governor Coker for use as a seaside resort village with hotels and other recreational facilities for people living near Jacksonville, Florida which would become Daytona Beach's main competitor for commercial development over the next few decades. The first hotel opened its doors on Commercial Boulevard on July 4th, 1907 named "The Red Lion". On October 1st 1928, Daytona Beach became an incorporated municipality when it absorbed two unincorporated communities: Southport and Belle Glade. At its peak population in 1930 there were over 25 businesses operating out of six blocks bounded by West Broad Street, North Avenue, First Street/US 1A/Flagler Avenue and King Streets/University Boulevard; today only three small businesses remain within this once large business district including The Paper Tiger restaurant chain which closed in 2003; and Continental Airlines hangar #5 located across University Boulevard from Frontier Airlines hangar #4 remains one of only two tall structures remaining from this entrepreneurial era along with Home Depot built atop former US Airways hangar (#8), also located adjacent to Interstate 95 northbound off exit 73B south of downtown serving as both a business center for day-trippers during fly-ins/landings while also accommodating numerous government agencies at their various regional offices building associated support services such as firefighting helicopters; all contributing to the unique feel still retained today despite more than half a century since thesehistoric buildings last functioned as commercial properties! As early as 1927 Motor Speedway was being developed with $10 per acre ($ / ha) bought initially by JAPAN MOTOR SPEEDWAY CORPORATION through their subsidiary JMWA CORP.. On November 6th 1927 employees set up shop outside Gate 2 between turnpikes Running down Constitution Avenue towards MLK Jr Blvd., flagstaff flying due To inauguration ceremonies taking place nearby these early workers continued work inside Gate 2 until late evening completing track construction then drove home before dawn setting an example for future workers everyday long!!! This event forever changed & continues to live history every time someone drives by or visits Gate 2 nowadays

Daytona Beach, Florida is a seaside town located on the Atlantic Ocean in Volusia County, Florida. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state and home to many famous beaches such as Daytona Beach International Speedway and The Beach at Mayport. Daytona Beach was originally settled by English colonists in 1764. The area that now includes Daytona Beach was first inhabited by Native American nations including the Timucua and Aisne. In 1868, Henry Flagler founded the Panama Railroad which connected Miami with Tampa, creating an important transportation link for citrus exports from Florida. In 1907, after being purchased by J W Marriott Sr., Daytona Beach became one of his key business holdings. On July 30th, 1959, during a severe hurricane named Floyd, much of downtown was destroyed and over 1 million people were evacuated from their homes. Over $1 billion worth of property damage was caused by Floyd which remains the worst natural disaster in US history. After Hurricane Irma struck Brevard County on September 6th 2017 causing extensive damage to both coastal communities along the coast as well as inland communities it has been decided that Daytona beach will be placed within its own municipality called "Brevard"
The Daytona Beach, Florida area has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Daytona Beach were French settlers. Early pioneers of the area included General James Wilkinson and Captain George Walton; both of whom built homes on the peninsula that today includes Daytona Beach. In 1824, Englishman John Fenton established a small trading post at the mouth of River Volusia near present-day downtown Daytona Beach. By 1830, a larger town had started to form with an identity based largely on its maritime industry. At this time, many of the original homeowners on Flagler Street in downtown Daytona Beach still live there today as some of the earliest residents did not move out until after they lost their homes in the Great Depression. In 1835, American Commodore John Darnell chose Daytona Beach as his winter headquarters for operations during his voyage around Cape Horn and throughout South America. He named it "Dartmouth" because he thought it would remind people there was a "dartmouth" (a rapid stream) running through the center of town. The name stuck and Dartmouth became one of several localities dotted around central Florida known as "Dartmouth." This designation continued into modern times when various businesses within Plymouth County used that title including Dartmouth Paper co., Dartmouth Chevrolet dealership, Plymouth Petroleum Co., and Plymouth Nuclear Power Plant Authority among others. In 1885, two brothers by the name of Earle Burch bought land along Flagler Street from William Post & Sons for $1 million dollars ($102 million adjusted). They began building what would become known as Harbour House which later became home to many prominent citizens such as Governor Clements and Admiral Byrd while they toured America's East Coast aboard HMS Erebus during World War II. After Harbour House was destroyed by fire in 1929-1930 following hurricane Floyd - one of only two fires ever within city limits - development resumed along Flagler Street with new homes going up such as The Gables (now part of Palm Walk Towers), Dolphin Pointe (later renamed Regency Tower), Broadwalk Place (later redesignated Embassy Row), Harbour View Terrace (now called Harbour Drive), Belvedere Avenue North/South Roadhouse Towers and finally Hearst Tower which opened in 1971 atop then-new Harbor Drive development just north of where Today's I-Drive meets Third Avenue which forms Downtown's eastern boundary
