Davie, Florida is home to the United States Army's 4th Infantry Division. The division was created in 1947 and is headquartered in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The brigade combat team (BCT) of the 1st Brigade Combat Team (1-BCT), 3rd Infantry Division was also organized here in Davie and activated on December 14, 2001. The 1-BCT is commanded by Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez and has three brigades: the 3rd Brigade which is headquartered at Fort Myers Beach; the 2nd Brigade which is based at Hollywood; and the 1st Brigade which is headquartered at Miami Gardens. In addition, each brigade has two battalions: A Company from Cutler Bay; B Company from Miami Lakes; C Company from Coral Gables; D Company from Homestead. Each battalion has a total of 137 soldiers and officers assigned to it. In November 2006, Davie became home to another U.S. Army brigade when the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment was activated here as part of a rotation program that also included elements of the 4th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team (3-BCT). The battalion arrived with 105 Soldiers and officers assigned to it but will grow to 150 members when it arrives back at its current location in January 2007 before moving into an adjacent tent camp near Fort Myers Beach for training operations beginning in early 2007 before deploying to Baghdad for Operation Iraqi Freedom on October 20,2007 where they served as part of Task Force Sunburst along with elements of other brigades taken from other divisions such as III Corps' 9th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (9-IBCT) which arrived earlier that day via helicopterlift just prior to their deployment being completed on October 25th

It is also the home to Stonington University and its affiliated research center. The history of Davie begins with Manuel Garcia de la Hoz who settled in what is now Davie about 1837. He founded a plantation called "Garcia's Plantation" which served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. By 1840, Josefina Sanchez had married Garcia and moved to live in Davie. In 1865, Captain John Sledge discovered oil in Spanish Wells field off Highway 1 near present day Stonington University; this helped spur town growth and development. In 1876 Davies was incorporated as a village by commissioners from Collier County under the name of "Davie". Davies remained an unincorporated community until it became part ofCollier Township on January 1st, 1907 when all of Collier County became one municipality known as Broward County

Davie, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 1,521 at the 2000 census. Davie is located on the east side of Miami-Dade County and has a total area of 7.8 square miles (19 km²). It is bounded by Biscayne Bay to the north, Davie Boulevard to the west, and Bayshore Drive to the south. The city began as an agricultural town that grew up around what are now Four Corners Elementary School, Six Flags Over Miami International Airport, Armour Marine Park and incorporated as a municipality on January 1st 1907. The name "Davie" comes from two Indian words - doaba meaning "place where water flows" and ada meaning "township". At first people used land near present day Coral Gables for agriculture but this changed with development of the airport which made it possible for businesses to be built in Davie. The post office in Davie opened on December 12th 1892 and was renamed Highland after Captain James Highland who was killed in action during World War I. He had been commanding a battalion of United States Marines at Camp Goodrich when he was killed while leading his unit into battle against Japanese forces on April 6th 1915. In 1951, Hurricane Andrew struck southeastern Florida killing over 100 people and causing extensive damage across much of the state including Davie which lost power for days due to flooding caused by Andrew's winds and pollutants. In 1998 Hurricane Mitch hit southern Florida leaving extensive damage and $500 million worth of damage done statewide including loss of life along with significant property destruction including many homes in downtown Davie which were leveled by Mitch's waves
Davie, Florida was founded in 1883 as a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida. In 1926, Davie became the county seat of Hillsborough County and renamed itself to Davie after Major General Oliver O'Hara Davie who fought in the American Civil War. The city of Davie was incorporated on October 3, 1941.
