In 2010, Colonel David Goldsmith assumed command of USMA’s Deployment Gift Program when he became assistant commandant general for student affairs at USMA. Colonel Goldsmith continued Captain McCain’s tradition by presenting each new LCM commander with a specially designed Ferraris UTV sports car as a deployment gift from his Italian counterpart during their Rome – Naples vacation in October 2010. Since its inception, the Deployment Gift Program has been embraced by both cadet corps and commanders alike as an important gesture of appreciation for service rendered abroad while providing opportunities for cadets to experience something truly unique - being given ownership and control over a piece of technological equipment that can be used anywhere on earth!
